About the Role
As a Disability Advocate, you’ll support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability, their families and carers by providing information, advocacy, referral and representation services.
No two days are the same. You may be:
- Supporting clients to understand their rights and available options
- Assisting people to navigate services and systems, including the NDIS
- Advocating for individuals experiencing abuse, neglect, discrimination or barriers to support
- Building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations
- Representing ADA Australia at community events, workshops and forums
- Identifying opportunities to improve inclusion and advocacy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability
The role services South East Queensland and may involve outreach to regional Queensland communities, including occasional overnight travel.
About You
We’re looking for someone who builds trusted relationships, communicates with confidence, adapts to changing circumstances, and is passionate about empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability to understand their rights and be heard.
You may have experience in:
- Community services
- Social work
- Disability services
- Advocacy
- Human services
- Health or allied health
- Counselling
- Case management
- Community engagement
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs and services
You’ll also bring a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities, along with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability, their families and communities.
Essential Requirements
- Valid Australian Driver Licence
- Current National Criminal History Check
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
- Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
- Willingness to undertake regional travel, including occasional overnight stays
