Accountant – Full Time, 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

The Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne (CAM) are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance team on a 6-month fixed term contract. In this hands-on role, you will play a key part in supporting general accounting activities and compliance reporting, including the preparation of land tax returns.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position will work closely with internal departments, parishes, and external stakeholders, ensuring the efficient delivery of accounting processes in line with both internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day accounting tasks including accounts payable/receivable, account reconciliations, and assisting with financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and submit land tax returns and other compliance-related reports.
- Develop templates, tools, procedures, and policies that support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to special projects and respond to ad hoc requests from the Finance team.
- Build strong working relationships across departments and external partners to facilitate smooth financial operations.
About You
You’re a self-motivated and proactive team player with strong technical accounting skills and a commercial mindset. You thrive in a collaborative environment and have a keen eye for detail. To be successful in this position, you will have:
- A degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar accounting role.
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
- Solid commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
- Proficiency in financial management systems and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
