If the answer is yes, you’ve come to the right place!
Equality Institute (EQI) is a global feminist agency working to advance gender equality and end violence against women and girls.
Our vision is a world in which diversity is celebrated, all people are respected, and power and resources are shared equally. We are values-driven and underpinned by feminist principles in the ways we work and how we conduct ourselves. We believe that how we work matters as much as what we do.
Of course, we’re biased, but we think we’re pretty great to work with. We’re a small team of around 20 passionate and dedicated people who work either fully remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. We currently based in Naarm (Melbourne) and have team members in country Victoria, Tasmania and Timor-Leste.
We try to connect in person as much as possible. Our most recent all-staff retreat took place in Warburton in 2024, and we are heading to the Yarra Valley in 2026. They are a time to come together as a team and find the joy.
Our purpose is to transform unequal power structures and support violence prevention efforts to thrive in a rapidly changing world – through research, learning, creative communications and policy advocacy.
We contribute to building the global evidence-base for preventing violence against women and girls. We work with our partners and clients to conduct research and evaluations in Australia, across the Asia and Pacific regions, and beyond, prioritising robust, ethical, survivor-centred, and participatory methods to address key research gaps
We use strategic communications to make sure evidence reaches the right people – and create campaigns that educate and inspire.
Through strategic engagement, thought leadership, and advocacy, EQI helps shape funding, policy, and practice on preventing violence against women and girls, both in Australia and internationally. We provide advice on policy reform, National Action Plans, monitoring frameworks, and whole-of-government approaches to prevention
We provide holistic support and education to help organisations and individuals become leaders for social change. We offer strategic advice and technical support across gender equality, VAWG prevention, and Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB).
Our training and support helps build inclusive cultures, meet legal and ethical obligations, strengthen staff engagement and drive productivity, innovation and impact. We focus on practical, meaningful approaches—addressing psychosocial hazards and fostering respect and belonging, not just ticking boxes.
How we work matters just as much as what we do. We strengthen our human capacity, policies and procedures to promote diversity and intersectionality, and support individual and organisational development, building upon our strong feminist foundation.
We deeply value the contribution of our employees and their wellbeing is paramount. Here are just a few of our current benefits…
We prioritise our team’s mental health, with all employees having free access to Employee Assistance Program.
We understand the importance of rest in order to be our best selves. We offer all employees (pro-rata for part-timers) an additional five days of annual leave and an
extra three days of personal leave.
As an organisation striving for equality, we offer 20 days (pro-rata for part-timers) paid family violence leave per year to support those affected by family violence.
We offer a staff profit-sharing scheme which aims to distribute a percentage of any remaining surplus funds on an annual basis.
Flexibility is at the core of EQI and we offer a range of flexible working arrangements and work-life balance initiatives.
Continuous learning opportunities along with a professional development budget of $1,500 AUD each year.
A psychologically-safe working environment where you can bring your authentic self to work every day.
While violence affects women and girls across the world, different layers of people’s identities—such as their socio-economic status, indigeneity, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV status, minority status, age, and so on—impact the ways in which they are discriminated against and the types of violence perpetrated against them. Thus, our work aims to address not just gender inequality but all forms of inequality and systems of oppression in an interconnected way.
The opportunity to be surrounded by an experienced and supportive team to learn and grow from.
Then consider joining our team. We’d love to hear from you.
