About the Role

The IT Operations & Security Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our IT systems in, ensuring the security, availability and performance of the information technology infrastructure.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you will lead the team responsible for the management of the cloud environment with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) being the key platform in use. This role also leads the management of Google Workspace, including account provisioning and management, and the DevOps capability that supports the delivery of core operational software. This role includes responsibility for the service desk function

You will be responsible for the security of information technology assets across the enterprise, ensuring that security capabilities meet the evolving needs of this space across cloud-based services, integrations, end-user devices and networks.

This role, and the functions that it manages, is required to drive service-focused outcomes while maintaining a continuous improvement mindset

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & Clound Management

Oversee daily IT operations, including servers, networks, databases, and cloud systems, with a strong focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Workspace.
Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of IT infrastructure, particularly within GCP environments.
Manage GCP deployment, configuration, monitoring, and security.
Optimise cloud resource allocation.

Robust Security & Compliance

Develop and enforce information security policies and procedures across on-premise and cloud environments.
Conduct security audits and assessments, with emphasis on GCP and Google Workspace security.
Manage security tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS), monitor security alerts, and respond to incidents.
Ensure compliance with relevant security standards (e.g., ISO27001, SOC 2).

Effective Service Desk Leadership

Manage the IT Service Desk team, ensuring efficient handling of support requests and incidents.
Develop and maintain service desk processes and SLAs.
Drive continuous improvement in service desk performance and user satisfaction.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, identifying and implementing solutions to optimize IT systems and processes.
Drive the adoption of new technologies and automation.
Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management

Lead and mentor IT operations and service desk teams.
Ensure team members have the support and skills to be effective.
Manage vendor relationships for IT services and cloud infrastructure, including GCP and Google Workspace.
Evaluate third-party service providers for performance and security.
Support third party management activities of key partners and clients.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally meet the following criteria:

Required

You are degree qualified in an IT-related discipline (preferred)
5 + years experience in IT Operations / Infrastructure Engineer “on-the-tools” and 7 + years experience in IT Operations / Infrastructure leadership
5 + years experience in Cloud engineering “on-the-tools” and 5 + years in cloud engineering leadership
5 + years experience in security leadersip
5 + years experience in people management, prerably with experience leading virtual, including offshore, teams
5 + years experience in Non-IT Stakeholder management
5 + years DevOps exposure
5 + years eperience managing end-user devices
Work effectively in a dynamic and fast-changing environment, balancing both reactive and proactive workloads
Strong team focus and ethos, contributing well in team environments and facilitate the like contributions of others

Desirable

3 + years Google Cloud Platform (GCP) management experience
Familiar with Service Desk metrics and KPIs
Google Workspace administration exposure
SaaS-based telephony platforms exposure
ISO27001, SOC 2 or like compliance standards exposure
ITIL exposure
Third-party supplier management and evaluation, both evaluating and being evaluated
