Description
Build the Future of Autonomous Systems
SYOS designs and manufactures advanced uncrewed systems across air, land, sea, and subsurface domains. We combine intelligent engineering, AI-driven autonomy, and innovative design to create next-generation vehicles operating in some of the world’s most challenging environments.
About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Engine Technician to support the assembly, installation, configuration and testing of engine systems and associated equipment for our autonomous vehicles.
Working within our production team, you’ll assemble engines and fuel systems, install and configure engine control units (ECUs), carry out acceptance testing and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure systems meet engineering specifications and quality standards.
This is an opportunity to apply your practical mechanical or electromechanical skills in a fast-growing business developing next-generation autonomous technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Engine assembly and installation: Assemble and install engines, fuel systems and associated components in accordance with approved engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications.
- ECU configuration and integration: Install and configure engine control units, verify system interfaces and troubleshoot configuration or integration faults.
- Testing and fault diagnosis: Perform engine acceptance testing and fuel-system checks, investigate defects, record results and escalate issues where required.
- Quality and documentation: Complete accurate build, inspection and test records, follow approved quality-control procedures and support regulatory sign-off requirements.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with Production, Engineering, Software and Quality teams to support system integration, resolve technical issues and meet production schedules.
- Safety and compliance: Follow health, safety and environmental requirements, use approved tooling and procedures, and ensure assembly and testing activities are completed safely.
- Continuous improvement: Apply Lean Manufacturing principles, including 5S and Kaizen, to improve workflows, reduce waste and support efficient production.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in aerospace, marine, automotive or industrial manufacturing.
- A minimum Level 3 Electrical or Mechanical Apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience in engine, mechanical or electromechanical assembly, integration, testing and fault diagnosis within a controlled production environment.
- Practical understanding of engine, electrical, mechanical, fuel and control systems.
- Experience installing, configuring or troubleshooting ECUs and associated interfaces.
- Ability to assemble and test fuel systems safely, including leak and functional checks.
- Experience using test equipment, following acceptance procedures and accurately recording results.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and work instructions.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and working within a Quality Management System.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with engine diagnostic and configuration software, including ECU interfaces.
- Experience producing clear technical, build and test documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable aviation and/or maritime standards, safety regulations and regulatory sign-off requirements.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles in a production environment.
