Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Unit Manager to oversee the operations of our business unit. Barlass Consulting (BCA) delivers board-level consulting to businesses that need executive-quality thinking without the full-time cost. We provide fractional leadership, strategic advice, transformation programmes, and exit preparation — at a day rate and engagement model designed for SMEs and scale-ups.

Our successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the business unit, developing and implementing strategies to achieve business objectives, and ensuring the unit operates efficiently and effectively.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Set and lead the strategic direction of the subsidiary, aligning technical capability with clear commercial goals in line with group activity
  • Develop and implement business strategies to achieve unit objectives
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the business unit, overseeing the delivery of projects and solutions, ensuring quality, reliability, and client satisfaction
  • Monitor and analyse business performance metrics and make necessary adjustments to improve performance
  • Develop and manage budgets, financial plans for the unit and resource allocation to support sustainable performance
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow the unit
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams across technical and operational functions, thus creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, company policies, governance, data security and responsible AI use

Our successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrable leadership experience in a practical consulting, SaaS, product development, services or start up environment with experience as a Business Unit Manager or similar
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to analyse and interpret financial data
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of identifying market opportunities, emerging trends, and strategic partnerships that strengthen a business
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to operate effectively in an early-stage environment
