Theatre Scrub Lead

One Hatfield Hospital | Permanent – 37.5 hours per week

One Hatfield Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group, are looking for an experienced and motivated Scrub Lead to join our Theatre team. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident theatre professional with strong scrub experience who can provide leadership, support colleagues and help ensure the smooth and safe running of the department.

Experience across a variety of surgical specialties would be desirable, alongside the ability to work effectively in a busy theatre environment.

Reporting to the Theatre Manager, As Scrub Lead, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the Theatre department. You will help ensure the correct equipment and consumables are available, support members of the theatre team and liaise with consultants regarding specialist equipment and products.

You will also be responsible for coordinating the department when allocated, troubleshooting issues and helping to maintain high standards of patient care, safety and clinical practice. You will deputise for the Theatre Manager when required.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and support to the Theatre team, promoting evidence-based practice and high clinical standards.
• Coordinate the department when allocated and support the smooth running of theatre lists.
• Ensure appropriate equipment and consumables are available and liaise with relevant teams regarding supplies.
• Liaise with consultants and colleagues regarding specialist products and equipment.
• Support the development and competency assessment of team members.
• Assist new staff members to effectively undertake their roles.
• Promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
• Support audits, quality improvement and risk management initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with relevant clinical, infection control, health and safety and CQC standards.
• Support the completion of rotas for recovery and anaesthetic staff.
• Deputise for the Theatre Manager and Deputy Theatre Manager in their absence.
• Promote effective communication and teamwork across the department.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience working in a scrub role within a theatre environment.
• Ideally has experience across a range of surgical specialties.
• Has the confidence to coordinate and support a busy theatre team.
• Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Has excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of patient care.
• Is able to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenges or conflict.
• Has a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Is committed to maintaining their professional development and mandatory training.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding patients, including children and vulnerable adults.
• Demonstrates a caring, professional and respectful approach to patients, colleagues and other stakeholders.

This role would suit an experienced theatre professional who is ready to take on additional responsibility and play a key role in supporting the Theatre team.
