Description

Due to an expanding workload and our commitment to undertaking our projects to the highest possible environmental standards we have a vacancy for an environmental advisor within our Civil Engineering Division working across a wide range of energy, renewables and infrastructure projects.

The role is focused on providing environmental support across the company’s construction projects by undertaking site inspections, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, company procedures, and client specific requirements while promoting continual improvement in environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular site inspections to monitor compliance, identify risks and provide practical advice to site teams on environmental issues.
  • Support project teams at pre‑construction and construction phases to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licenses and consent conditions.
  • Develop Construction Environmental Management Plans & Pollution Prevention Plans
  • Liaison with key stakeholders (e.g. clients, SEPA and local authorities)
  • Support the investigation of environmental incidents, identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide training, toolbox talks and ongoing support to promote environmental awareness.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience of providing support to live construction projects.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology or related discipline, or relevant construction‑sector experience.
  • Good working knowledge of environmental legislation and guidance relevant to construction in Scotland and UK, including pollution prevention, waste, water and ecology.
  • Experience of working within certified Environmental Management Systems.
  • Confident communicator with ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good IT skills
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ISEP, CIWEM, ICE) is desirable.

Role Parameters

  • Reports to: Environmental Manager.
  • Location: Scotland, regular travel to construction sites and some home/office hybrid working.
  • Interfaces with: Project managers, site managers, design teams, SHEQ, commercial teams, clients, regulators and other stakeholders.
