Summary:

Groundline Engineering are currently seeking a Principal (or Senior) EHV Cable Systems Design Engineer to join our team in the UK. This pivotal role involves leading the Cable system design development and delivery of EHV cable systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering innovative solutions that enhance our clients’ projects and contribute to the growth of our consultancy services.

We are seeking an experienced industry professional that can deliver, check and approve a broad type of design work. The successful candidate must be able to design deliverables, whilst mentoring others and supporting less experienced team members. Please note the advertised salary range covers both Senior and Principal applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Use industry standard software to produce, develop, check, and approve designs, based upon the output required.
  • Thorough knowledge of first principles design from Concept to Issue for Construction (IFC) drawings, to engage, mentor, manage and support a dedicated Cable design team at all levels.
  • Plan and utilise the company’s people and software resources to deliver detailed and accurate technical documentation with consideration of areas such as electrical clearances, geology, structural modifications and upgrades, maintenance, construction, and temporary works.
  • Produce check and approve design inputs and outputs in line with statutory, CDM and industry specific standards while identifying and implementing current best practice.
  • Identify and review amendments to technical drawings and documentation providing feedback, coaching to ensure lessons learned are implemented into future work.
  • Technically consider risks and constraints in project handovers by asking for and imparting key data, for example technical constraints, budgets, timescales, risks (internal and external), including company and reputational as well as technical etc
  • Provide clear guidance, instruction, and leadership to less senior members of the team.
  • Participate and lead in Cable team Project Design meetings and participate in Design team meetings across all project wide design disciplines as required to meet project deliverables.
  • Provide feedback on yours and others progress and alert senior members to risks of task delivery in a timely manner
  • Support with the development of less experienced team members by reviewing and feeding back on submitted work.
  • Mentor others positively and in line with personal development desires of the individual and of the organisation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Essential)
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in related field (Preferred)
  • Chartership (Desirable)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in EHV cable design or a related area for Senior position. (Essential)
  • Proven experience in leading engineering teams. (Essential)
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in design software (Essential)
  • Use of Cymcap, Cableizer Software (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly. (Essential)
  • Experience of working within power line/telecoms/utilities sectors (Essential)
