Description

Humanoid Handler – Public & Customer-Site Operations

Extend Robotics | Zero-hour contract | On-site at customer venues and events

About the Role

Extend Robotics deploys humanoid robots into live customer environments, trade shows, and public events to deliver interactive performances and guest engagement. Behind every humanoid on the floor sits a skilled handler responsible for its safe operation, its performance quality, and the experience it creates for the public around it.

The Handler operates humanoid robots (e.g. Unitree G1, Magiclab Z1) at customer sites, exhibitions, and public-facing events, ensuring the robot performs reliably, safely, and engagingly in front of guests who may have no experience around robotics.

What You Will Do

  • Operate humanoid robots in public and customer-facing settings, running pre-set gestures, dances, and interactive routines to a consistently high standard.
  • Act as the safety chaperone for the robot at all times it is active around members of the public, maintaining a safe working perimeter and intervening immediately if a guest or bystander moves into an unsafe position.
  • Manage live guest interaction, prompting the robot’s AI-driven responses appropriately and keeping the experience smooth, welcoming, and “on brand” for the client’s event or brand.
  • Set up and de-rig the robot at the venue, including pre-event upload of site/topic information used for guest interaction.
  • Monitor robot behaviour, battery/power status, and environmental conditions (crowd density, flooring, lighting, noise) throughout the activation, recognising anomalies and responding with safe pause, recovery, or escalation as required.
  • Keep accurate operational logs: activation duration, interaction counts, incidents or near-misses, and notable guest feedback.
  • Provide structured feedback on performance routines, guest engagement, and the UX of the control/interaction system.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with the engineering team on faults, edge cases, or improvement opportunities.
  • Follow defined safety protocols and venue-specific risk assessments for each event or customer site.

What We Expect

  • Calm, attentive presence around members of the public throughout the activation — safety and guest comfort come first, always.
  • Consistent, polished performance delivery, shift after shift, regardless of venue or audience.
  • Confidence engaging with the public: greeting guests, narrating what the robot is doing, and keeping the experience friendly and approachable.
  • Good communication skills, both in the moment (coordinating with event staff and engineers) and in writing (logs, feedback).
  • Comfort with everyday technology and willingness to learn the specifics of each robot platform and control system.
  • Discretion when working with customer data, event details, and site information.

What We Are Looking For

  • Comfort with technology and control interfaces; no specific technical background required — aptitude, composure, and stage presence matter more.
  • Prior experience in front-of-house, events, promotions, performance, hospitality, or crowd-facing roles is desirable, as is any teleoperation, robotics, or gaming background involving fine motor control.
  • Willingness to travel to customer/event venues and commit reliably to scheduled activations.
  • Comfortable being the public face of the robot — some events involve photos, media, and direct guest conversation.

Why This Role Is Worth Your Time

  • Direct, hands-on exposure to how real humanoid deployments run in front of live audiences and paying customers.
  • Variety across events, venues, and industries — from trade shows to hospitality activations — rather than one static setup.
  • A foot in the door of a fast-growing area of the robotics industry, working closely with the team building it.

Working Pattern

This is a zero-hour contract. Handler shifts activate around confirmed events and customer bookings. Hours available depend on the event calendar, which is currently scaling alongside customer demand. As bookings grow, available hours and the size of the handler team will scale with them. We’ll work directly with each handler to align shifts, availability, and growth in hours as event activity expands.

Most work is performed on-site at customer venues and events, with occasional in-house sessions at the Extend Robotics office for training and rehearsal.
