About My Client
The venue is an established independent pub in Burley-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, combining a traditional Yorkshire welcome with a fresh approach to food.
The kitchen focuses on home-cooked dishes, seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce, with food prepared to order and a regularly changing specials board. Sunday roasts are a particular feature, alongside a varied menu designed to appeal to both local regulars and visitors.
Following a refurbishment, the pub offers stylish, welcoming surroundings while retaining its traditional character, including a cosy atmosphere and open fire. It’s an opportunity to lead a kitchen where quality ingredients, good cooking and consistency are at the heart of the business.
The Role
My client is looking for a passionate and talented Head Chef to take ownership of the kitchen and lead the food offering.
You’ll have the freedom to create and develop seasonal menus, introduce specials and put your own stamp on the dishes served. Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll help shape the direction of the kitchen while maintaining high standards across food quality, presentation and service.
This role would suit an established Head Chef or an experienced Sous Chef ready to step up and take the lead within an independent business.
With the pub trading Wednesday to Sunday, the working pattern offers a clear five-day trading week, with Monday and Tuesday away from service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Create and develop seasonal menus using fresh, locally sourced ingredients
- Introduce creative specials and keep the food offering evolving
- Lead, motivate and develop the kitchen team
- Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion control
- Manage stock, ordering, food costs and waste
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and health and safety standards
- Work closely with the General Manager to develop the business

- Enjoys creating menus and bringing new ideas to the table
- Has strong leadership and organisational skills
- Can maintain high standards during busy services
- Understands stock control, food costing and kitchen management
- Has a calm, positive approach and takes pride in their food
- Wants the freedom and responsibility to make a genuine impact on an independent business
If you’re looking for the opportunity to lead your own kitchen, develop a seasonal food offering and make your mark on an established independent pub, this could be the next step for you.
