Summary:

The Museum Curator will play a pivotal role in the design and management of exhibitions, ensuring that the museum’s collections are effectively showcased and preserved. This position is essential for enhancing the cultural landscape of Sheffield and engaging the community through innovative programming and educational initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for art and history, along with a commitment to fostering public appreciation for the museum’s offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and curate exhibitions that align with the museum’s mission and vision.
  • Research and interpret the museum’s collections, providing context and educational resources for visitors.
  • Collaborate with artists, historians, and other stakeholders to create engaging programming.
  • Manage the acquisition and deaccession of artefacts in accordance with museum policies.
  • Oversee the care and preservation of collections, ensuring compliance with best practices.
  • Organise and lead educational workshops and tours for diverse audiences.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials to promote exhibitions and events.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts and grant applications to support museum initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Museum Studies, Art History, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a museum or gallery setting.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on public engagement.
