Medical Scribe

Summary:

A medical scribe works alongside physicians and other medical professionals in the clinical setting to assist with patient charting and documentation. They gather patient medical history, record patient complaints and symptoms, transcribe physician-patient interaction and physical examinations, create and update medical charts in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, ensure medical and legal requirements are met, facilitate communication between physician and staff members, and assist with administrative tasks as needed. Medical scribes may also assist with patient care coordination and other clinical duties.

Responsibilities:

• Gather patient medical history and relevant information
• Record patient complaints and symptoms
• Transcribe physician-patient interaction and physical examinations
• Create and update medical charts in electronic medical record (EMR) systems
• Ensure that all medical and legal requirements are met for medical documentation
• Facilitate communication between physician and staff members
• Assist with administrative tasks, as needed
• Assist with patient care coordination and other clinical duties as needed

Qualifications:

• Excellent communication, multitasking, and organisational skills
• Deep understanding of medical terminology and documentation standards
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
• High school diploma or equivalent required, some college coursework in healthcare-related field preferred
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred, but not required.
