Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Junior Sous Chef (Grill) to join our team. The Junior Sous Chef will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chef and Head Chef in managing the kitchen and ensuring the quality of food preparation and presentation. The ideal candidate should have a passion for cooking, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Chef in managing the kitchen and ensuring the quality of food preparation and presentation
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines
- Supervise and train kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, and sanitation practices
- Ensure that all food items are stored, handled, and prepared safely and hygienically
- Maintain inventory levels and order supplies as needed
- Assist in menu planning and development
- Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef and Head Chef
Qualifications:
- Experience within hotels, pubs & modern Australian contemporary dining a la carte restaurants preferred
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, ready for the next step forward.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and sanitation practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work with a team, follow instructions and lead a section
- Passionate about your craft and displaying very high standards of food production and presentation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Impeccable grooming and personal presentation

The successful candidate will possess prior experience in a large kitchen – preferably with a contemporary dining a la carte restaurants. You must have genuine enthusiasm for cooking, self-motivation and the ability to work unsupervised. You must also be available to work a rotating roster, including nights and weekends.
