About Us
Biodiversity Australia is a proudly Indigenous-owned environmental management consultancy passionate about caring for Country, protecting biodiversity, and keeping our natural environment looking its best. We’re growing our team and looking for hardworking, reliable people who don’t mind a bit of dirt under their fingernails!
About the Opportunity
We’re on the hunt for 2 Casual Vegetation Field Team Members to join our growing team across Southeast Queensland. Love being outdoors? Happy to swap the office chair for a whipper snipper? Don’t mind getting a little sweaty while doing work that actually makes a difference? ….We might just be your people!
You’ll work across a variety of vegetation and land management projects, typically Monday to Friday with 8 hour days. Workloads can vary depending on project demands, but when things get busy, there are opportunities for consistent work and ongoing employment.
Fair warning: This job involves actual grass, actual dirt, actual sunshine, and the occasional battle with a stubborn weed!
What You’ll Be Doing
- Chemical spraying using vehicle and backpack units
- Whipper snipping and mechanical clearing (the weeds won’t clear themselves!)
- Hand weeding and vegetation control
- Mulching and tree planting
- General site maintenance and environmental works
No two days are the same, and you’ll spend your time outdoors working alongside a team that gets stuck in and gets the job done.
About You
We’re looking for someone who’s reliable, safety-conscious, physically fit, and ready to roll up their sleeves. You don’t need to be best friends with every weed, but knowing how to tackle them is a bonus!
Essential requirements:
- White Card (General Construction Induction)
- Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual labour
- Strong commitment to safety and using equipment correctly
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking — we need people who show up ready to go!
Got some extra skills? Even better!
- Previous vegetation management or outdoor field experience
- ACDC licence (Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control)
- Chainsaw ticket or other relevant machinery tickets
- Experience working in physically demanding outdoor roles
These aren’t all essential, so don’t count yourself out if you’re keen to learn!
Why Join Biodiversity Australia?
- Room to grow: We’re a growing department, which means opportunities to build your skills and progress your career. You might start by tackling weeds and end up taking on much more!
- Ongoing work: We have ongoing opportunities as projects grow. There’s plenty to get stuck into when the work is there.
- Management that actually listens: Our management team is approachable, with an open-door policy. Got a question, an idea, or need a hand? You won’t have to send a carrier pigeon to get someone’s attention.
- A team that cares: We look after our people because good teams don’t happen by accident. We want you to feel supported, valued, and happy to come to work.
- Work that matters: Help protect our natural environment and leave sites looking better than you found them. Take that, weeds!
- Fresh air included: No stuffy office, no endless meetings — just hands-on work, a great team, and the outdoors (weather permitting, of course!).
