Description

Betashares is hiring a Software Engineer to help operate and mature our internal AI Platform as it moves from a live prototype to reliable business-as-usual operation. The platform supports agentic AI use cases across the organisation. Your initial focus will be hands-on platform engineering and DevSecOps: improving deployment, security, observability and day-to-day support while developing a detailed understanding of the platform.

You’ll work with platform engineers and business stakeholders across AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, TypeScript and event-driven services. This role suits a developing engineer with practical technical foundations who wants to grow through delivery. As your platform knowledge and judgement develop, you’ll take on broader backend changes and architectural decisions within delegated authority, with technical review and overall accountability retained by the platform owner. Frontend work is limited to internal tooling and enabling feature development.

Role Responsibilities

  • Improve the platform’s operational maturity by delivering agreed changes that make deployments, support and routine maintenance more reliable and repeatable.
  • Operate and improve AWS and Kubernetes environments, automate infrastructure changes, and maintain clear environment configuration.
  • Design and improve CI/CD pipelines, including automated tests, security checks and rollback processes, so changes can be released safely.
  • Implement agreed security controls for secrets, permissions and audit logging, working within delegated responsibility and escalating material risks.
  • Improve monitoring, logging and alerting; investigate incidents; and strengthen reliability, performance and cost efficiency.
  • Support PostgreSQL operations and event-driven services, including data changes, recovery procedures and troubleshooting across service boundaries.
  • Build and maintain TypeScript backend services, APIs, integrations and internal operational tooling that enable platform features and AI workflows.
  • Document operating procedures and work with engineers and business stakeholders to prioritise improvements and make the platform easier to support.
  • Contribute to design reviews and progressively take responsibility for architectural decisions and broader platform changes as your competence develops.

  • Ability to write, test and debug backend code in TypeScript or another backend language, with a willingness to work in TypeScript.
  • Practical experience deploying or supporting cloud-hosted applications and containerised workloads.
  • Experience using version control and CI/CD pipelines, with an understanding of automated testing, safe releases and infrastructure as code.
  • Understanding of relational databases and APIs, with a methodical approach to investigating application and infrastructure issues.
  • Working knowledge of secure development practices, including secrets handling and access controls, and judgement about when to seek review or escalate.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems, act on feedback, document changes and communicate technical issues clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on AWS, Kubernetes and PostgreSQL experience, including improving deployment or operational workflows.
  • Exposure to event-driven architecture and asynchronous service integration.
  • Experience with a systems programming language.
  • Familiarity with LLM applications, agentic workflows or AI development tools.
  • Experience in financial services or regulated environments.
