About Akura

At Akura, people come first. We are a hands-on, values-driven culture where initiative is encouraged, accountability matters and good work is recognised. You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in what we deliver and supports each other to do it well.

Akura is an industrial design and construction specialist, delivering high-quality property solutions for owner-occupiers, developers and investors. With more than 50 years of experience, we’ve built a reputation on quality, speed of delivery and buildings that are made to last.

We specialise in industrial units, warehouses and self-storage facilities, with in-house manufacturing of structural steel and precast concrete panels at the core of our offering. We support our clients across the full project lifecycle – from architectural and structural design through to on-site construction and delivery. We also work directly with builders to supply engineered steel and precast packages.

Join a business with a strong pipeline, long-term vision and the opportunity to contribute to projects that shape Australia’s industrial landscape while building a career you can be proud of.

About the role

As a Yard Hand at Akura, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of yard activities, including coordinating logistics, loading trucks, and maintaining a safe, organised and productive work environment. You will work closely with internal teams, production personnel and drivers to support daily operations and uphold Akura’s standards and values.

This is a hands-on, hybrid all-rounder role that will also involve assisting within the precast factory as required to support production demands and maintain operational efficiency (we can teach you this!).

Key Responsibilities

  • Confirm load plans with the Logistics Manager/Yard Coordinator.
  • Coordinate with production plants to ensure items for transport are ready and available.
  • Load precast concrete panels onto trucks using overhead gantry cranes, including safely picking, lifting and positioning panels for transport. Full training will be provided.
  • Load structural steel with forklifts onto trucks.
  • Ensure all loads comply with legal requirements for transportation.
  • Safely operate a forklift to transport and position loads as required.
  • Enter loading details into the driver’s load manifest book, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure the manifest is signed off by both the Truck Loader and Truck Driver.
  • Provide support to the precast factory as required, particularly during periods of high production demand.
  • Maintain a neat, tidy, and safe yard environment at all times.
  • Organise materials and equipment in designated areas for easy access and operational efficiency.
  • Manage inbound deliveries, ensuring proper documentation and storage.
  • Report any discrepancies or damages promptly to the Manager.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Manager/Yard Coordinator to support operations.
  • Model Akura’s core values and professional behaviours when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and adaptable team player with great initiative, a positive attitude and a strong “get it done” mindset. Someone who takes pride in their work, is willing to lend a hand wherever needed and is proud to be part of the Akura team. You can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a similar yard or logistics role (preferred), as you will be handling oversized steel and precast concrete elements.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • High Risk LF Ticket (required)
  • Reliability and effective communication skills for liaising with internal teams and drivers.
  • Rigging or Dogging experience (highly advantageous).

What we offer you

  • Competitive Hourly Rate – based on your skills, experience and qualifications
  • Growth – Opportunity to grow your career – we invest in our people
  • Positive Workplace Culture – Regular culture initiatives, including monthly birthday celebrations, strategy day activities and team events
  • Bonus – Eligibility for our company wide Bonus scheme for this role
  • Employee Wellbeing Support – Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), providing confidential mental health and wellbeing support

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Akura team.

Alignment with our core values is key so if you’ve got the right skills and you’re reliable, a team player with a can-do attitude, driven to deliver quality outputs and willing to innovate/challenge the status quo, we’d love to hear from you.
