About Unity Grammar
Unity Grammar is a dynamic and growing independent Islamic college in Austral, NSW, proudly serving over 1,500 learners from Kindergarten to Year 12. The school is seeking to appoint a second Deputy Principal in the senior school (Years 7-12) to work closely with the Principal, and other stakeholders. The appointment will commence in Term 3, 2025 and the renumeration package will be reflective of our current CMEA.
The Role
- The Deputy Principal role is to promote the school’s strategic vision and support the Principal in leading and managing the Senior School. You have specifically the delegated responsibility for the day-to-day operational running of the school, alongside the other Deputy Principal, and requires you to support the Principal, manage staff, oversee curriculum, address learner behaviour and wellbeing matters, incorporate the Islamic ethos into all facets of the school and liaise directly with students, staff and parents, while contributing to the overall development and success of the school.
- Crucial to your role is to foster an environment of continuous improvement with collaborative planning, monitoring and frequent review of data with the teams, to meet key accountabilities and improve current initiatives and programs. Your aim is to ensure the Senior School continues to flourish, by focusing on improvement and achievement targets.
- Your role also requires you to establish a positive school culture of high expectations and standards, strong relational trust and robust relationships, in partnership with the Principal, particularly with educators, learners, parents and the wider school community. Alongside the principal, you are required to be collaborative, collegial and empathetic in your approach. As a Senior School Deputy Principal, you are also required to perform and address specific duties as outlined in the Senior School roadmaps (Strategic Plans), take ownership of the key initiatives and progress, and in other areas as required, in collaboration with and as delegated by the Principal and/or the school’s executive team.
GENERAL SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications and Experience
- A postgraduate Master of Educational Leadership (either completed or in the process of being completed).
- At least 10 years outstanding teaching experience in the senior school.
- At least 5 years leadership experience is desired.

- A clear and proven commitment to the Islamic ethos and values within the school.
- Knowledge and commitment to promote and support the Islamic ethos of the school.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively manage the complex daily priorities of the school using effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and emotional intelligence to deliver school excellence.
- A proven ability as a collaborative leader to work with the Principal to lead change and create a culture of high expectations for students and staff.
- Ability to collect and use data to develop quality differentiated curriculum to cater for the needs of the students, and foster a culture of continuous improvement that results in academic growth and high achievement.
- The capacity to initiate improvement through mentoring and coaching, in teaching, learning and classroom practice for all educators.
- The skill to build the capacity of staff and teams within the school.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to deliver excellence in behaviour and wellbeing within a culture of high expectations.
- Knowledge and understanding of NESA legislation, with reference to Registration and Accreditation processes.
- A proven ability to support and foster authentic relationships with various stakeholders across a school setting.
- Deliver all items according to scope as requested by the Principal or other executives – as and when requested, after approval and consultation with the Principal.

- Ability to act quickly and sensitively under pressure, to keep calm in difficult situations and deal with stressful situations.
- Demonstrate high levels of communication skills both oral, written and in effective listening skills, conflict resolution skills and negotiation/mediation skills.
- Ability to manage your own workload appropriately, with the enthusiasm, stamina, and passion to enthuse and motivate others regarding all aspects of the education in the Senior School.
- Be open and constructive, accepting of feedback and always willing to learn.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, approachable to all members of the school and the wider community; a ‘can do’ positive approach, displaying warmth and empathy.
