About the role

Our dedicated team of On-Call Support Workers provide support and information to people who have been sexually assaulted or experienced intimate partner violence. Our On-Call team works together to provide a vitally important 24-hour, 365 days a year On-Call service, in partnership with Queensland Police and Queensland Health. We walk alongside sexual violence survivors at a time of deep distress and immediately link them to available supports, including our free counselling services as needed.

The On-Call Support Worker will respond to young people and adults who have experienced sexual assault, presenting immediately to an emergency setting, mainly Hospital or Police stations, to provide support. The On-Call Support Worker will provide a trauma-informed crisis response, ensuring safety planning and assistance around reporting options for survivors. They will work cohesively with medical staff, Police, and relevant stakeholders for coordinated care, as needed, and as agreed to by survivors.

This includes supportive advocacy for survivors, ensuring that their voice is heard and they have a choice and consent in every decision made about them, the coordination of their medical care, and forensic examination for evidence collection (if agreed to). We provide an immediate opportunity to start rebuilding survivors’ sense of power and control by giving them back their voice and choices in decision-making and ensuring that their rights are upheld.

• Experience or willingness to provide crisis support in a compassionate and trauma-informed way.
