TLaWC

The Taungurung Land and Waters Council (TLaWC) is the voice of the Taungurung people – a

people with a strong sense of shared identity, self-determining in the management of Country

and culture. As a Registered Aboriginal Party, TLaWC upholds the interests of the Taungurung

people with emphasis on economic, social and cultural well-being. TLaWC’s focus is to preserve

the past, protect the present and strengthen the future of the Taungurung Nation, which

occupies a large part of Central Victoria.

This role sits within the Advocacy & Enablement Division, which is a multidisciplinary area of the

organisation directed by Taungurung community cultural objectives, aspirations and strategic

priorities in the TLaWC Strategy 2021-2025. The Division is made up of five (5) work units:

Advocacy & Engagement, People & Workplace Culture, Partnerships and Agreements, Finance,

and wawa biik – Cultural Experiences.

Primary Function

This role will be responsible for developing a robust strategy and action plan for ongoing

sustainability and success of Goranwarrabul House. It will also involve supporting the

implementation and evaluation of Korin Korin Balit Djak (KKBD) Aboriginal health, wellbeing and

safety initiatives 2017-2027 by connecting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

members living within the Lower Hume catchment of Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires and with

local health and primary care services.

Key Duties

1. Build a rapport with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to identify and document

the issues, barriers and local approaches to ensuring health and wellbeing outcomes of

same

2. Building on relationships with health providers, hospitals, and other relevant services that

will assist in the health and well-being of the Aboriginal community

3. Working with other relevant programs that will inform the strategy and action plan for

achieving sustainable outcomes for Goranwarrabul House

4. Working collaboratively with KKBD partnership managers and project officers to foster a

coordinated approach to implementing the Korin Korin Balit Djak Action Plan and best

practice and regional achievements

5. Advocate for better outcomes that benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s

needs and aspirations

6. Enhance the profile and sustainability of Goranwarrabul House

In partnership with the Aboriginal community, Aboriginal organisation and non-Aboriginal organisations in Lower Hume:

1. Develop project plans, evaluations, activities and project reports consistent with

KKBD and state-wide planning and reporting requirements

2. Working collaboratively with partners, stakeholders and community to review,

develop and implement a robust strategy and action plan for Goranwarrabul House

ongoing sustainability and success

3. Develop and implement strategies to engage with the Aboriginal Communities living

in Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires including supporting implementation of health

promotion initiatives in partnership with relevant councils and organisations

4. Other duties in-line with program objectives as required

• Long periods of time spent sedentary at a desk

• Reasonable level of health and fitness required to perform the inherent requirements of

the role

Key Selection Criteria

Essential capacities

• Tertiary Qualifications and/or significant experience in a similar position

• Demonstrated experience working in Aboriginal Health, wellbeing and communities

• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain relationships with people at all levels anda

range of professional and consumer groups

• Sound understanding of Aboriginal health challenges and issues as they relate to Lower

Hume

• Well-developed understanding and experience in change management processes

• Well-developed skills and experience in the planning, delivery and evaluation of

services, programs and projects

• Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders

• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

• Ability to work with minimal direction, manage time effectively and be adaptable and

flexible.

• Competent use of a range of IT applications, including word, excel, PowerPoint

and outlook.

• Current driver’s licence.
