About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join our Finance team and help shape a high-performing, people-first culture. As our Management Accountant, you will ensure all Monthly Management Accounts are prepared and reviewed in a timely manner and prepare Budget versus Actuals reporting for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). You will assist in business planning, budgets and ad hoc reporting for the ELT to help drive performance of MIPS, and Finance month-end tasks including the posting of month end journals and financial statement preparation. You will adhere to all policies, standard processes and ensure reporting are in place to meet statutory and regulatory compliance.

The role will work across the organisation by meeting key accounting and financial obligations using data to drive better performance and prioritisation and deliver on MIPS Group strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounting:

  • Review the monthly Management Accounts and resolve or raise any concerns.
  • Prepare monthly budget v actuals for all Departments and resolve or raise any concerns.
  • Assist in the KPI reporting metric preparation.
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting and meet with any relevant stakeholders to provide the details.
  • Preparation of accruals and prepayments and other general ledger account reconciliations as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly reforecasts, collaborating with Budget holders.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual budget process.
  • Adherence to policies, standards, governance, processes, systems and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) to ensure management accounting and audit responsibilities are met, as required under financial services legislation and relevant regulatory requirements.

Expertise & Advice:

  • Prepare and present the monthly Management Accounts to the FP&A Lead, raising any concerns, recommending any mitigations or opportunities for cost savings.
  • Develop detailed budgets and forecasts ensuring MIPS can plan effectively for the future.
  • Actively promote and adhere to a robust risk management culture ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements & internal controls and policies.
  • Contribute to a continuous improvement program to identify areas for innovation, deliver value and simplify processes.
  • Proactively communicate and provide education to employees in relation to the role and Finance.
  • Contribute to the month end close to agreed timelines and accuracy and assist with the preparation of financial statements.
  • Assist the Finance team with additional projects, as required.

  • Leverage external relationships to maximise efficient use of resources and act in the best commercial interest of MIPS.
  • Deliver operational processes and business outcome deliverables in line with MIPS risk management and compliance frameworks and relevant regulatory, fraud control, audit and compliance requirements including delivery of internal audit requirements.
  • Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy

About You

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Right to work in Australia (unrestricted)
  • Experience working in a customer or member-based environment.
  • Experience in finance, with advanced knowledge of accounting standards, practice and internal control, such as accounts payable and management accounting.
  • Experienced in accounting systems, with a strong bookkeeping background.
  • Excellent attention to detail, appreciate consistency and accurate record keeping. With a good understanding of when to consider the bigger picture.
  • Ability to perform critical analysis of budgets, forecasting and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement orientation, with attention to detail that informs finance team improvements.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and building strong working relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to look for alternative solutions and implement.
  • Strong skills in organising and planning.
  • Strong skills in Excel. Self-sufficient in use of digital tools, such as Microsoft suite of applications (Outlook email, calendar, PowerPoint, Word and Teams).
  • A continuous learner with the ability to remain abreast with the constantly changing MIPS environment.
  • Qualification in (Accounting, Commerce, Business).
  • CPA or similar qualification.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience working in an APRA regulated environment.
  • MYOB experience.
