Associate Lawyer

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lawyer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and representation to clients in various industries. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of the law and be able to provide sound legal advice to clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and representation to clients in various industries
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to ensure that clients are informed of their legal rights and obligations
  • Draft legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and pleadings
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and arbitrations
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients
  • Advise clients on legal issues related to their business operations
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in the law and advise clients accordingly
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor of Laws and current practising certificate
  2. Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience practicing law in Planning, Environment and Governance in relation to one or more of the following:
  • a. NSW planning and environment laws and procedures;
  • b. NSW building and development certification laws;
  • c. Compensation and land valuation disputes;
  • d. Local and State Government disputes;
  • e. The development assessment and determination process including rights of review and appeal;
  • f. Compliance and enforcement of planning and environment laws;
  • g. Appearance in the Land and Environment Court for directions hearings, motions and conciliation conferences.

In addition, you will have the ability to:

1. Identify and apply relevant legal principles to facts and independently formulate a reasoned conclusion about a client’s rights, liabilities and obligations;

2. Draft written advice to a client outlining the client’s rights, liabilities and obligations based on identified legal principles and facts;

3. Draft written submissions to a Government Agency representing the client’s interests;

4. Advise on the process and procedure for class 1 and 4 applications in the Land and Environment Court;

5. Review experts reports, identify key merit and legal issues;

6. Represent clients at meetings with other parties;

7. Appear at directions hearings, motions and conciliation conferences in the Land and Environment Court;

8. Advise on any other public law issues that may arise in the development assessment, approval or appeal process;

9. Advise generally on:

  • i. development consents, certificates and other types of development permits;
  • ii. environmental offences and licencing requirements;
  • iii. nature resource management;
  • iv. strategic land use planning;
  • v. land contamination;
  • vi. compensation and land valuation; and
  • vii. access to public information.

Further skills required:

  • Strong understanding of the law and legal procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
