About the Role…
We are currently seeking Paediatric Registered Nurses to work with one of our high needs ~ complex care 13 year old. Our young client is non-verbal, non-mobile and has cortical vision impairment. However, they can hear you and loves to hear people singing, talking and reading stories to them. The role requires you to assist our client with all personal care tasks as well as high level respiratory monitoring, suctioning and seizure management. After a recent long hospital admission, the care needs of this young person has increased and we are seeking additional people to join the team. This role involves both personal and emotional support so if you have a positive mind set, are intuitive & client focused, this role is for you. Full 24/7 coverage is now required and we have a vacancy for an additional 3 experienced Registered Nurses due to them retaining high co2 levels, . Your experience is vital to watch out for the warning signs and help him get back to his base line. A lot of these tasks were once able to be fulfllled by a high intensity worker but a high level of medical knowledge is required to put all the pieces together and keep this young person out of hospital.
Duties…
- Clinical assessment and Co2 monitoring
- Personal cares such as bathing and oral care
- Skin and pressure injury care
- Peg feeding and medication management
- Complex bowel care
- Regular chest pats, bed turns and other activities to maintain lung health
- Secretion management (regular suctioning, nebuliser and the use of a cough assist machine)
- Providing entertainment such as reading and singing
- Potential opportunities to work with other clients
Qualifications & Experience…
- Current Nursing Registration with AHPRA
- Relevant understanding and experience in acute health setting, delivery of health services within a community setting, complex case management, or palliative care
- Flexible approach to working hours is essential (please do not apply is you only want to work weekends)
- Experience working with children and their families in a home setting and commitment to the provision of family centred care is preferred
- Wound management experience (skin tears, pressure injuries and complex wounds) is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience caring for children with acute lung failure (home oxygen needing regular adjustments, chest physio, use of cough assist machine, 6% NEBS, oral, nasal and deep suctioning to induce coughs to clear plugs) is essential.
- Experience with PEG, Identifying and Managing Seizures, Home Oxygen etc.
- Excellent communication skills
- Your availability for all shift types including Active Overnight and on-call roster is ESSENTIAL.
