The Nursing Practitioner position will provide medical services to the population served by GEGAC Primary Health Care. This will include the management of acute and chronic conditions and assistance with the delivery and promotion of primary health care. The role will be part of a multidisciplinary team; including GP’s, Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers, Koori Maternity Services, Dental and visiting allied health/Specialists.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Position Purpose

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who will be responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centred care within our Primary Health Care clinic. Operating with a high degree of clinical autonomy and advanced clinical training, the Nurse Practitioner plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and treating acute, chronic, and episodic illnesses, conducting physical examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and delivering preventive health services. This position is integral to enhancing healthcare accessibility, improving patient outcomes, and promoting overall community health. Organisational Profile.

Key Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Victorian Aboriginal Health, Aboriginal Culture and the ability to liaise with and support the local Community.

• Demonstrated experience in Managing teams – preferably in a Health setting.

• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and demonstrated organisational ability.

• Demonstrated ability to prepare produce reports for Executive Management and collate data on incidents.

• Demonstrated ability to build trusting and productive relationships with staff, clients and stakeholders.

• Confident and capable of working as the coordinator in a busy unpredictable environment – dealing with competing priorities.

• Experienced at maintaining client confidentiality.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

• Driver licence. ESSENTIAL

• Bachelor of Nursing ESSENTIAL

• Experience in leadership within an Aboriginal Health Service DESIRABLE

• AHPRA Registration ESSENTIAL

• A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL

• A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE

• Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
