POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Senior Medicare Billing Officer role is multifaceted, in that this role carries a variety of responsibilities. The primary responsibility is managing/submitting Medicare billing in a timely manner. This involves being able to use the patient data management system Communicare, and an understanding of Medicare Billing Schedule (MBS).

DUTIES

Duties may include but not limited to:

  • Submission of Medicare claims in a timely manner.
  • Implementing relevant changes to MBS items as updates occur.
  • Working with the Clinical Managers to identify billing opportunities.
  • Daily auditing/submission of Medicare claims.
  • To assist in the interpretation of the data collected.
  • Ensure that all communications with Medicare are dealt with professionally.
  • Ensure to liaise with Medicare when further assistance is required.
  • Promote continual quality improvement in the service.
  • Ensure all standards are maintained consistent with RACGP accreditation standards as applicable to the service.
  • Work in collaboration with the Clinical Manager on all relevant issues.
  • Work in collaboration with the Finance Team to ensure efficient and accurate Medicare / PIP income recognition and processing.
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer & Clinical Managers, develop and implement systems for the collection of accurate data consistent with reporting requirements.
  • Reporting and reconciliation related to the Practice Incentive Program

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Current C Class Drivers License (QLD) – essential.
  • Satisfactory police check – no serious Criminal/Court record.
  • Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required, including the requirement to travel, work and stay overnight for up to several days at a time in remote areas.
  • Willingness to travel by road and small plane.

SELECTION CRITERIA, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • A demonstrated understanding of Medicare billing practices in a primary health care service and a commitment to implementing systems for ongoing quality improvement in billing practices.
  • An understanding of the MBS
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a collaborative manner with staff.
  • Motivation to provide service excellence.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
