We are seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the operational and financial performance of our NSW office, ensure the successful delivery of high-quality projects, and foster a positive organisational culture. This role involves monitoring key metrics, managing risks, driving business development, and supporting the growth of the leadership team.
Key Competencies:
- Drive the financial performance of the NSW office by monitoring budgets, resource utilisation, and profitability, while working with the CEO, Program Managers, and local leaders to ensure commercial success and transparency.
- Promote financial literacy to empower data-driven decisions and hold teams accountable for project outcomes, encouraging ongoing improvement.
- Coach and mentor emerging leaders, providing clarity, strategic autonomy, and confidence to support succession planning and long-term capability development.
- Champion project delivery by setting high standards, supporting resource planning, promoting accountability, and managing risks to meet targets and client expectations.
- Build strong client relationships, lead strategic pursuits and bid, and guide business and marketing plans to position Tonkin as the preferred partner in NSW.
- Partner with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Program Managers to shape growth strategies, identify market trends, and strengthen Tonkin’s position as a leader in Infrastructure and Structural Engineering.
- Manage operational and project risks with the General Counsel, promoting a culture of safety, compliance, and ethical practice.
What You Bring
- A degree qualification in Civil, Structural or related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ professional experience, with a proven track record in leading high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Deep understanding of project delivery, budget control, risk mitigation and client engagement across complex infrastructure projects.
- A collaborative leadership style that builds trust, clarity, and shared ownership, and a commitment to ongoing learning and development for yourself and your team.
- Professional membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent is highly desirable.
