Our approach to RAI is a company-wide commitment, championed by our leadership and embedded across every level of the organisation. Hero AI: the intelligence layer

Hero AI is Employment Hero’s artificial intelligence capability, built on more than a decade of regulatory integrations, payroll infrastructure, and employment law expertise. Operating as the intelligence layer of HeroForce, HeroAI coordinates three AI-powered agents across the employment lifecycle:

The Recruitment Agent

Autonomously sources, screens, and matches candidates against verified skills, availability, and award requirements. For example, the El Jannah restaurant group replaced traditional resume screening with this AI-assisted matching, resulting in faster shortlisting and an estimated $500,000 in annual savings.

HeroForce: accountability by design

HeroForce is Employment Hero’s fully-managed employment service. Under this model, Employment Hero becomes the legal employer, assuming responsibility for payroll, award interpretation, superannuation, workers’ compensation, and employment compliance.

Operational Control

Client businesses retain full operational control, directing who is hired and how work is performed.

Worker Protections

Workers employed through HeroForce hold formal contracts and retain all protections under the Fair Work Act, including award wages, leave, and the right to union representation.

Regulatory Framework

HeroForce operates fully within existing regulatory frameworks and is currently available in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and coming soon to Canada.

Continuous improvement (CI) is vital for ensuring our RAI framework and governance remains safe and effective in a dynamic world. AI is not a static technology; we recognise issues such as model drift and emerging biases can appear after deployment. Our approach to CI seeks to address new challenges and ensure our systems remain aligned with our principles and global best practice values over time.

Model Performance

We continuously monitor the performance of our AI models to ensure they remain accurate and effective, proactively addressing any model drift that may occur as real-world data changes.

Fairness and bias

We periodically audit prioritised systems for fairness and bias, Reviews use representative samples and guardrail metrics; if issues are found, we remediate and re-test and record learnings for future releases.

Privacy and Security

We maintain strong access controls, logging, and adversarial testing; when using third-party models we set zero-data-retention / no-training. Incidents follow a defined response plan.

Employment Hero collects your data for four main reasons, which are grounded in legal and business requirements: to fulfil our contractual obligations with you and your employer, when you have given us your explicit consent for specific uses, when it is necessary for a legitimate business interest, and to comply with legal and regulatory obligations. All data is collected and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which is regularly reviewed and updated in line with regional and global best practice.

Keeping your data secure is our top priority. We use advanced encryption (TLS), multi-factor authentication and regular security audits to protect our platform. Employment Hero is ISO/IEC 27001 certified, meeting the same standards as banks.

We also employ firewalls, DDoS protection, strict access controls, continuous patching and detailed logging. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest on secure AWS infrastructure.
