Hero AI: the intelligence layer
Hero AI is Employment Hero’s artificial intelligence capability, built on more than a decade of regulatory integrations, payroll infrastructure, and employment law expertise. Operating as the intelligence layer of HeroForce, HeroAI coordinates three AI-powered agents across the employment lifecycle:
The Recruitment Agent

Autonomously sources, screens, and matches candidates against verified skills, availability, and award requirements. For example, the El Jannah restaurant group replaced traditional resume screening with this AI-assisted matching, resulting in faster shortlisting and an estimated $500,000 in annual savings.
The HR Agent

Provides workers and businesses with employment guidance and compliance support from onboarding through to termination. Every output operates under a human-in-the-loop model, with specialists overseeing processes to ensure accuracy
The Payroll Agent

Interprets Australia’s Modern Awards in real-time across every payroll run, automatically carrying award updates across all affected businesses. It monitors compliance obligations, tracking changes to legislation, superannuation requirements, and tax thresholds to identify issues before they result in underpayment.
HeroForce: accountability by design
HeroForce is Employment Hero’s fully-managed employment service. Under this model, Employment Hero becomes the legal employer, assuming responsibility for payroll, award interpretation, superannuation, workers’ compensation, and employment compliance.

Operational Control
Client businesses retain full operational control, directing who is hired and how work is performed.

Worker Protections
Workers employed through HeroForce hold formal contracts and retain all protections under the Fair Work Act, including award wages, leave, and the right to union representation.

Regulatory Framework
HeroForce operates fully within existing regulatory frameworks and is currently available in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and coming soon to Canada.

Fair and Inclusive

Hero AI’s Recruitment Agent is designed to reduce the role of bias by minimising the use of protected attributes and focusing on skills and experience. It ranks candidates on role-relevant evidence from the job and a candidate’s work history (skills, responsibilities, certifications). Protected attributes are excluded from ranking. Each suggestion includes a clear explanation of why the candidate appears, and employers can tune the criteria so decisions stay anchored to merit and job fit.
Transparent and Explainable

We make AI-assisted ranking understandable for both employers and job seekers. HeroAI’s Recruitment Agent shows why each candidate appears, lets employers tune the criteria and records those changes so they’re auditable.
Matches are broken down by job-derived signals (e.g. experience, qualifications), rather than personal attributes. Each criterion shows how the candidate aligns with the role. Managers can then click the ‘update score card’ to adjust criterion weights/scores; the system then recalculates the ranking instantly. We clearly indicate when AI is used and give users a path to question or challenge outcomes.
Safe and Secure

Data privacy and security are paramount at Employment Hero, and we have implemented a comprehensive set of measures to protect personal data. We rigorously adhere to major global privacy laws like GDPR and the Australian Privacy Act and hold internationally recognised certifications, including ISO 27001.

Yes. Employment Hero ensures there is always human oversight in the use of AI and users have the ability to question, challenge, or seek clarification on AI-driven outcomes. For example, our Recruitment Agent provides transparent explanations of how candidates performed against the interview question rubric, along with clear audit trails. Employers can review these insights and final hiring decisions are always made by humans, not AI. This guarantees fairness, accountability and a clear path to contest or correct outcomes if needed. We collect certain types of data in order to deliver market-leading products and services to businesses, partners, employees and job-seekers. This data depends on which services we provide to you, however largely falls into personal and contact information, employment and financial data and platform usage / technical data. Employment Hero collects your data for four main reasons, which are grounded in legal and business requirements: to fulfil our contractual obligations with you and your employer, when you have given us your explicit consent for specific uses, when it is necessary for a legitimate business interest, and to comply with legal and regulatory obligations. All data is collected and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which is regularly reviewed and updated in line with regional and global best practice.
Your personal data is stored securely in data centres located in Australia, Ireland and Canada by our trusted third-party providers. Across all our AI initiatives, zero‑data‑retention and no‑training settings are configured by default with our third-party model partners.We retain data only for as long as necessary to deliver our services, meet legal or operational requirements and enhance your experience, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised. Some data (such as account information, marketing preferences, or usage analytics) may be kept for longer where required by law or business needs. Keeping your data secure is our top priority. We use advanced encryption (TLS), multi-factor authentication and regular security audits to protect our platform. Employment Hero is ISO/IEC 27001 certified, meeting the same standards as banks.

The Hero AI Recruitment Agent only shares relevant information (e.g. job title, skills) and no Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is shared.
