Description
Big ideas. Real-world impact. Global opportunity.
At SYOS Aerospace, we’re building the next generation of autonomous systems across air, land, and sea — turning ambitious ideas into technology that works in the real world.
From advanced engineering and R&D in New Zealand to manufacturing scale-up in the UK, our global teams are developing innovative products with real-world impact. As we continue to grow, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to exciting projects and build your career across our international teams.
The SYOS way
We’re growing fast, taking on bigger challenges, and building technology that matters.
At SYOS, you won’t be sitting on the sidelines. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute, challenge ideas, solve problems, and see your work make a real impact.
About the role
We’re looking for a detail-oriented CAD Design Technician to provide mechanical CAD and drawing support to our UK engineering and production teams. You’ll play an important role in helping the team transition to Siemens NX and Teamcenter, ensuring engineering designs, drawings and configuration data are accurate, controlled and ready for manufacture. This is a 3-month contract with an immediate start and the potential for an extension.
What you’ll do:
- 3D modelling: Create and update accurate mechanical component models using Siemens NX.
- Engineering drawings: Produce detailed, toleranced manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, General Assembly and General Arrangement drawings.
- Configuration management: Maintain CAD models, drawings and engineering data in Siemens Teamcenter, ensuring appropriate revision control and approval workflows.
- Engineering changes: Implement minor design updates arising from Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), keeping affected models and documentation up to date.
- Production support: Work closely with Design Engineers, Production Engineers and Prototyping Technicians to ensure design information is clear and practical for manufacture.
- Team support: Help colleagues adopt Siemens NX and Teamcenter, sharing knowledge and supporting the transition to new engineering tools and processes.
What you’ll bring
- ONC, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant experience in a mechanical design, CAD or drawing office within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
- Sound mechanical understanding and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, controlled documentation and revision management.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation and problem-solving skills.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering and production teams.
Nice to have
- A relevant engineering apprenticeship or formal CAD/draughting training.
- Training or experience in engineering drawing standards and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience supporting colleagues through a CAD or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system transition.
Security Requirements
To be eligible for this role, you must be able to meet the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This includes confirming your identity, legal right to work in the UK, recent employment history, and criminal record (unspent convictions only).
