Title: On Trade Key Account Manager (London)

What kind of person are we looking for?

We’re looking for sales people who are a little different.

You’ll need to be someone who really likes people, and who other people really like. That’s because you have empathy, intelligence, discipline and a warm personality. You’ll be both interesting and interested, the kind of person your customers will look forward to seeing, and who they trust.

You’ll be brave enough to make decisions that might have a long-term effect on your figures, rather than always going for the quick win. You might turn an order away if it’s not right for your customer, or tell them they’ve made the wrong choice of wine. Of course, you’ll also offer them the right solution. Because you’ll understand that by building great relationships with your customers and you’ll get the results you need in the end.

Sell our portfolio of 1,500 wines to an existing account base and work hard, as a team, on new business growth. Boutinot is unique in that we produce our own wines, new world and old world, from our estates across the globe but also have an envious selection of world class producers and underdogs who’s wines we are proud of. What will this involve?

The way you’ll do this is through planning and through knowledge and understanding. Not just of our wines and producers – and you’ll be given intense training in these – but most importantly, of your customers. Because you won’t simply be working on behalf of Boutinot, you’ll be working on your customer’s behalf too. You’ll build close relationships with every single one, so that you get to know them and their businesses as well as they know themselves. So when you go to see them, you’ll know what they need, what they didn’t know they needed….and have the solutions that will delight them, every time.

This is an exciting, interesting role – and a demanding one. It needs energy, enthusiasm and commitment. But if you give it everything you’ve got, it will be more rewarding than you could have thought possible.

What you absolutely must have is the interest, enthusiasm and energy to drink up knowledge, to grasp this opportunity with both hands, and make your role into something we can all raise a glass to.

What do we expect?

Apart from managing accounts and developing new business, you’ll need to take part in customer tastings, events and trips. You’ll also spend a decent amount of your time on the road, visiting customers and building relationships, so you’ll need a degree of flexibility in the hours and location of your work. If you’re looking for a 9-5 desk job or 3 days a week working from home, then this really isn’t for you as you will love to be out and about.

You will have WSET level 2 or similar background.

You will be able to run a spreadsheet with one eye closed, analyse numbers, spot trends and see problems that may arise (there will be interview questions on this).

Most importantly you will be self-aware, honest, open and be comfortable learning from mistakes, yours and others.
