Employment Hero achieves SOC 2 Type 2 compliance
Published

Employment Hero has officially achieved SOC 2 Type 2 compliance — further reinforcing its trust credentials following the successful Canadian launch of the Employment Operating System (Employment OS).
The certification, announced today, confirms that Employment Hero meets the rigorous security, availability and confidentiality standards set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The result: a clean audit opinion with no exceptions, following an extensive third-party audit conducted by Global Compliance Certification (GCC).
This compliance milestone ensures Canadian SMBs using Employment OS — or evaluating a switch — can trust that their data, systems and users are protected by globally benchmarked security practices. “This is a milestone achievement,” said Kevin Kliman, President of Canadian Business at Employment Hero. “Earning SOC 2 Type 2 compliance demonstrates our commitment to protecting customer data with the highest security standards. It means that Canadian businesses can trust that the processes behind our platform are secure and reliable — so they can focus on running and growing their business with confidence.”
What SOC 2 compliance means
SOC 2, short for System and Organization Controls 2, is the global standard for assessing how service providers manage data. Developed by the AICPA, the framework evaluates a provider’s operational effectiveness across five key areas: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy.
Importantly, this is a Type 2 report, which doesn’t just examine whether controls are in place, but whether they’ve operated effectively over time. That makes it one of the most demanding benchmarks for cloud-based platforms. “This isn’t just about meeting compliance checklists,” said Kliman. “Type 2 tells our customers that our security isn’t theoretical—it’s tested, proven and built for the long haul.”
Why now—and why it matters
The timing of this certification comes on the heels of Employment Hero’s successful rollout of its Employment Operating System in Canada earlier this year. The launch marked a pivotal expansion of Employment Heros’s global footprint, bringing its full-stack employment platform to a new market with sophisticated privacy expectations and a high bar for compliance.
Since launch, Employment Hero has seen rapid adoption among Canadian SMBs seeking to simplify payroll, HR, hiring and compliance — all in one system. But with increased visibility comes increased scrutiny. “This achievement backs up the trust our users already place in us,” said Kliman. “Security is a differentiator. And for Canadian businesses looking for a platform that scales with them — it’s a non-negotiable.”
In a market where privacy legislation like PIPEDA and provincial equivalents are front of mind, SOC 2 compliance adds a critical layer of reassurance for businesses looking to protect employee data and meet internal risk frameworks. But beyond brand credibility, SOC 2 is increasingly becoming a baseline requirement in vendor selection.
When companies partner with third-party platforms, they don’t offload their legal responsibility—they extend it. If a provider mishandles sensitive data or suffers a breach, the client may still be held accountable. By choosing SOC 2 Type 2-certified vendors, businesses can actively reduce their compliance and legal exposure, while also demonstrating to regulators, customers and internal stakeholders that they’ve exercised proper due diligence.
This certification not only fast-tracks security reviews and procurement approvals, it also strengthens EH’s position in regulated and risk-conscious sectors. Key advantages for clients and partners include:
- Speed up vendor approval processes by meeting security due diligence requirements
- Support procurement for regulated industries, including finance, healthcare and education
- Reinforce disaster recovery and uptime expectations, critical for business continuity
- Simplify third-party risk assessments, for customers managing audits or raising capital
Canadian clients can also request a summary of Employment Hero’s SOC 2 audit results, enabling them to complete their own governance and compliance checks with confidence.
For mid-sized organizations navigating complex growth, SOC 2 also adds weight during board-level evaluations and legal reviews — helping internal champions fast-track decisions.
Building for long-term trust
Employment Hero’s security strategy doesn’t stop here. SOC 2 is part of a larger roadmap to embed trust-by-design principles into every aspect of the Employment Operating System.
From access management and real-time monitoring to role-based permissions and encryption, EH is investing heavily in security architecture that scales with its customers. “Compliance is just one side of the coin,” said Kliman. “We’re designing the Employment OS to be resilient, transparent and future-ready. Our goal isn’t to tick a box — it’s to lead the category on trust.”
SOC 2 Type 2 compliance is valid for 12 months and will be reviewed annually. Employment Hero will also continue to update its security credentials in its Trust Centre, where clients can find the latest information about audits, certifications and platform updates.
For SMBs in Canada and around the world, the Employment Operating System is already transforming how businesses hire, pay and manage their teams. With SOC 2 Type 2 now added to its credentials, Employment Hero is doubling down on its mission to make employment easier, safer and more valuable — for everyone.
