Position Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Leading Hand (Welding) to take a hands-on role in supervising and mentoring our welding teams on diverse marine and defence projects. Your key responsibilities will include ensuring exceptional quality of work, enforcing stringent safety protocols and actively contributing to the successful delivery of projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical welding skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with both the team and management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and lead a team of welders and fabricators on-site and in the workshop.
• Ensure all welding work is performed to required quality standards, specifications and project timelines.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld procedures and job specifications accurately.
• Conduct inspections of completed work to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Provide hands-on support and mentorship to team members, assisting with complex welding tasks as needed.
• Coordinate daily work schedules, allocate tasks and report progress to supervisors or project managers.
• Identify and troubleshoot welding issues, recommending solutions to avoid delays.
• Maintain accurate records of job progress, materials used and workforce hours.
Skills and Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of experience or closely matched to a leadership role within a marine, welding or fabrication environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work across both workshop and on-site environments.
• Strong understanding of welding techniques, codes, and safety procedures.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
• Trade Certificate in Fabrication Engineering, Welding or Boiler making (Certificate III or equivalent)
• Current Construction White Card
• Valid C-class driver’s license
• Ability to obtain or hold a valid National Police Clearance
