Summary:

Good Shepherd Lodge Ltd is situated in Mackay Queensland and operates 2 aged care facilities, Good Shepherd Lodge and Kerrisdale Gardens. Our aged care facility is committed to ensuring that our residents live in a comfortable and safe environment, and we believe that a well-maintained outdoor space contributes to their overall well-being. We are seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper to join our team and help us maintain our beautiful grounds.

Position Overview:

The Groundskeeper will be responsible for the upkeep of the outdoor spaces and gardens surrounding the Kerrisdale Gardens Facility. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that the grounds are well-maintained, safe, and aesthetically pleasing for our residents, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain gardens, lawns, and outdoor areas (mowing, trimming, pruning, weeding, planting, etc.).
  • Ensure the safe and appropriate use of outdoor equipment (lawnmowers, trimmers, etc.).
  • Conduct regular inspections of grounds to ensure they are safe and free of hazards (e.g., fallen branches, uneven surfaces).
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping tasks, including planting, mulching, and maintaining seasonal plants.
  • Manage and dispose of garden waste, including grass clippings, leaves, and other debris.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues in outdoor areas to the appropriate team members.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to create a pleasant and inviting outdoor environment for residents.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with special outdoor events or activities as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, gardening, or related fields preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping techniques and outdoor equipment operation.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Physically capable of performing tasks such as lifting, bending, and walking for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to outdoor work.
  • A compassionate and respectful attitude towards the elderly.
  • A current police check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Valid driver’s license.
