About the role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Philanthropy & Giving Director is responsible for significantly increasing income across the organisation through a diverse range of initiatives and channels, providing sustainable revenue to support GFA’s growth aspirations. This will be achieved by leading growth across a diverse range of revenue streams, including but not limited to major donors, individual giving, trusts and foundations, digital and physical product sales. This role will be a key contributor to the financial health of the organisation, providing input into GFA’s revenue growth strategy.

Key Accountabilities

The Philanthropy & Giving Director will consider and analyse all aspects of the organisations funding to ensure delivery of diverse and sustainable revenue streams.

Fundraising Strategy:

• Lead and foster innovation across all fundraising initiatives to diversify revenue streams through the development and delivery of a multi-year fundraising strategy.

• Fundraising streams will include, but are not limited to, Individual Giving and Gifts-in-Wills and this role will lead the implementation, delivery and success of these fundraising initiatives.

Major Gifts, Trusts and Foundations:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts strategy to secure significant donations from high-net worth individuals.

• Lead the outreach campaign to identify and engage with potential new philanthropists, and the development and cultivation of the relationship.

• Collaborate with the grants team to support the development of strong grant submissions.

Product Development and Growth:

• Develop, implement, and execute a strategy to generate revenue through the sale of GFA digital and physical products and assets, including but not limited to merchandise and online learning courses.

Compliance and Regulatory:

• Ensure compliance with all fundraising laws and regulatory requirements, developing and implementing policies and procedures as necessary.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Sustainably expand the Fundraising team to support the delivery of increased revenue across multiple channels, leading and mentoring an innovative and collaborative high-performing team.

Financial:

• Oversee and manage the income and expenses for all fundraising activities, ensuring financial targets are met, and resources are allocated efficiently.

• Develop and monitor annual budgets, providing regular financial reports and analysis to the executive team, proactively identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies as required.

Selection Criteria

Our ideal candidate will have:

• At least 5 years’ experience in fundraising/philanthropy and senior management roles, in the not-for-profit sector.

• An enthusiasm for navigating fast-moving settings, with the drive to build and grow impactful initiatives from the ground up.

• A proven ability to turn ambitious goals into tangible outcomes, approaching challenges with a solution-focused mindset.

• Strong leadership experience, with a track record of developing and scaling high-performing teams while maintaining a people-first approach.

• The versatility to confidently lead at a strategic level while being hands-on and involved in day-to-day execution when needed.

• A data-informed approach, leveraging insights and analytics to guide decisions, enhance outcomes, and identify new opportunities.

• A collaborative and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to effectively engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.

• A forward-thinking and creative outlook on fundraising, philanthropy, and donor engagement, always seeking innovative ways to make a lasting impact.

Terms of Employment

This position is full-time, and will initially be contracted till June 2026, aligned to Grant Funding, with the possibility of extension. It will be based at GFA’s head office in North Sydney, with some opportunity to work flexibly, subject to organisational needs.
