We’re seeking a skilled Maintenance Fitter to join our team on the afternoon shift. The hours for this position would be Monday to Friday, from 2:00pm to 10:00pm with occasional weekend work and overtime available.

The Maintenance Fitter is a member of the maintenance team, works under general supervision and supports preventative maintenance programs and installation of new plant and equipment. They perform routine mechanical tasks, assist in trouble shooting equipment issues, and ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently. This role contributes to minimizing downtime and maintaining compliance with safety and food industry standards.

This is a full-time position, reports to the Maintenance Manager and is located at our Altona facility.

What you will do:

  • Follow lockout / tagout procedures to conduct pre start checks and regular inspections of machinery such as mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging machines to ensure operational efficiency. Identify and report signs of wear, misalignment, or potential failures.
  • Assist in the development, scheduling, and execution of preventative maintenance schedules to optimize equipment performance, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with maintenance best practices.
  • Fault find, diagnose, troubleshoot, and use human machine interface and automated systems to resolve minor mechanical faults before they escalate, ensuring minimal production disruption. Replace belts, bearings, seals, and gaskets as needed. Perform minor conveyor belt adjustments and roller replacements. Dismantle, clean, and reassemble equipment components as required to manufacturer specifications.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment. Assist in the fabrication and modification of minor mechanical components such as brackets, guards, or supports, ensuring adherence manufacturers specifications, safety and operational standards.
  • Contribute to specialised projects, process and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, equipment breakdown response, technology solutions and assisting with the provision of training including skills acquisition and maintenance
  • Participate in the development and implementation of specific health, safety and wellbeing hazard and risk management strategies, cooperate with any directions and procedures, report all injuries, illness, near misses and hazards and complete health and wellbeing training initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively, share information and work cooperatively with team members to contribute to the achievement of individual, team and organisational goals and customer experience.

What we are looking for:

You have:

  • relevant trade qualifications and proven mechanical fitting experience required.
  • at least 5 years food manufacturing, packaging or relevant industry experience.
  • solid working knowledge of HACCP, ISO 9001, Food Safety and GMP systems.
  • knowledge of Ammonia Plants and Freezers would be advantageous.
  • experience with Microsoft Office Programs such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and PLC / HMI systems would be advantageous.
