About the Role
Information technology systems are fundamental to the success of ZEN’s energy trading activities. This role is part of a highly talented team of developers and data analysts who are delivering the critical wholesale and retail energy trading and risk management system functionality for the company.
The role will develop and maintain software systems that integrate third party platforms with market systems, providing an integrated solution for ZEN’s trading functions in the Australian energy markets.
Given that ZEN is fundamentally an energy trading company, this role is pivotal to the ongoing success of ZEN in leading Australia into a more sustainable energy future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain applications using C#, .NET Framework, Python, and SQL
- Develop unit tests and system integration tests
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand and implement complex algorithmic logic
- Translate energy and trading business requirements into software design and solutions
- Contribute to architectural decisions and participate in code reviews
- Optimize code for performance, scalability, and maintainability
- Document solutions
- Collaborate with other developers, data engineers, and business teams in an agile environment
- Undertake work in accordance with the team coding standards, security standards and agreed SDLC processes
- Work Health and Safety Management at ZEN

Education and Qualifications
• A degree in an appropriate field.
Experience
• 5 or more years of experience in software development
Technical Skills Required
• Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Framework, Python, and SQL
• Ability to understand and implement complex mathematical or algorithmic models
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset
• Effective communicator who can work well across technical and non-technical teams
• Comfortable working in a hybrid team setup with both in-office and remote collaboration
Desirable
• Experience with PySpark, Databricks, or big data platforms
• Capability with front end development, especially React
• Familiarity with Terraform, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of Azure cloud services
• Background in mathematics, engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Previous experience in energy markets or financial trading environments
