As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the team. The Software Engineer actively leads and contribute to the design and development of infrastructure and frameworks to move proof-of-concept innovation and R&D projects into production. This role also ensures the
technical viability of projects that align with the commercialisation goals of Navantia Australia. These projects include the development of maritime technologies related to artificial intelligence, simulation, and autonomous systems.
In this role you will:
- Mentor and supervise software engineering and innovation and R&D associates and interns
- Initiate and lead the development portion of the R&D projects into commercial-ready products
- Support the strategy for the development of R&D products, including software deliverables
- Development of the software development process and provide technical viability expert advice related to R&D initiatives covering simulation, algorithms, optimisation, and artificial intelligence.
- Communicates with stakeholders, obtains stakeholder engagement to ensure the end products or processes will result in a solution that meets customer needs.
- Monitor and keep up to date with the latest best practices in moving innovation and R&D projects into production.
- Experience working with R&D in the Defence industry
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
- Qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related fields with strong Maths or Physics background.
- Demonstrated industry experience in moving proof-of-concept digital technology projects such as projects in artificial intelligence and autonomous systems into commercial products
- Supervision of software engineers working in an Agile environment
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients.
- Strong time management skills and ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment.
