The Role
The Audience Engagement Intern will play a key role in supporting the planning, delivery, promotion, and evaluation of TBG’s public and nature-based arts and cultural programming. This graduate-level internship is designed for individuals seeking practical experience in arts administration, cultural programming, audience development, arts marketing and community engagement.
Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Audience Engagement and cross-departmental teams, the intern will contribute to the full life cycle of cultural programming—from early planning and artist coordination to onsite delivery, marketing, documentation, and evaluation.
The role also includes meaningful opportunities in arts marketing, content development, and cultural storytelling, supporting both digital and onsite audience engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Arts Administration & Cultural Programming
- Support planning, coordination, and delivery of public cultural programs, including concerts, exhibitions, festivals, and community celebrations
- Assist with artist and performer logistics, scheduling, and onsite coordination
- Support installation and deinstallation of visual art and eco-art exhibitions
- Assist with development and documentation of an Artist-in-Residence program
- Contribute to post-event evaluation, reporting, and impact summaries
Audience Engagement & Visitor Experience
- Support onsite visitor engagement at events through wayfinding, information stations, and interpretive materials
- Assist with inclusive audience engagement strategies that prioritize accessibility and community participation
- Gather audience feedback and participation data to inform future programming
Arts Marketing & Content Development
- Contribute to marketing and promotional strategies for arts and cultural programming
- Assist with creation of content for digital platforms, including social media, e-newsletters, website updates, and onsite materials
- Capture and organize photography, short-form video, and written content documenting events, exhibitions, and artist activity
- Support storytelling initiatives that highlight the intersection of art, nature, and community
Cultural Tourism & Partnerships
- Support engagement with tourism and cultural partners, including arts organizations, community groups, and tourism agencies
- Assist with research and benchmarking of comparable cultural and garden-based programs
- Contribute to positioning TBG as a cultural tourism destination within Toronto’s arts ecosystem
Learning Opportunities & Graduate-Level Competencies
This internship is structured to support the development of graduate-level competencies, including:
- Arts administration and cultural program management
- Audience development and visitor experience design
- Arts marketing and digital content development
- Event production and public programming operations
- Evaluation, reporting, and reflective professional practice
The intern will gain direct exposure to major public cultural initiatives, including outdoor concert series, visual art exhibitions, Pride celebrations, community gallery programming, and artist-led projects.
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
Required
- Recent graduate (or completing final year) of a university or college program in:
- Arts Administration or Cultural Management
- Museum, Gallery, or Curatorial Studies
- Fine Arts (with professional practice focus)
- Cultural Studies, Tourism, or Creative Industries
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Interest in public culture, arts programming, and community engagement
- Ability to work in a public-facing environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
Assets
- Experience or interest in arts marketing, communications, or content creation
- Familiarity with digital platforms and storytelling tools
- Interest in nature-based, site-specific, or community-engaged arts practices
This role requires occasional evening and weekend work aligned with public programming. The position is primarily onsite, with limited remote work flexibility.
