Description

Position Title: Cook – Days

Reports To: Executive Chef, Kitchen Lead, General Manager, or Designate

Employment Status: Part-Time

Location: 1364 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB

Hours of Work: Day shifts, weekdays, weekends, statutory holidays, catering events, and operational peak periods as

required

Compensation: $17.20-$20.00 per hour, based on experience and internal pay structure

Position Summary

– The Cook – Days supports daily kitchen operations, food preparation, cooking, line support, catering preparation, inventory

organization, and sanitation duties. This role is responsible for preparing quality food in a timely, safe, and consistent

manner while supporting the overall operation of Shelly’s Indigenous Bistro.

– The successful candidate will have previous kitchen experience, strong reliability, and the ability to work efficiently in a

fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, safety, and teamwork.

Core Responsibilities

– Prepare vegetables, proteins, sauces, soups, side dishes, and other menu ingredients

– Cook and assemble menu items according to recipes, portion standards, and food preparation procedures

– Support takeout, delivery, catering, and special orders during assigned shifts

– Demonstrate safe and effective knife skills

– Follow food quality, presentation, portioning, packaging, and timing standards

– Assist with line cooking, prep lists, and daily kitchen production needs

– Support catering preparation, packaging, and event production as required

– Ensure proper food storage, labelling, dating, and FIFO rotation

– Restock ingredients, dry goods, supplies, and workstations as required

– Maintain clean, sanitized, and organized prep stations, cooking areas, storage areas, and equipment

– Complete cleaning and sanitation duties as assigned

– Assist with inventory counts, stock organization, and supply tracking

– Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance concerns

– Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements

– Work collaboratively with cooks, supervisors, drivers, and front-end staff

– Support teamwork and assist other departments when operationally required

– Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

– Previous kitchen, prep cook, line cook, catering, restaurant, or food service experience is required

– Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment is preferred

– Strong knife skills and safe food preparation techniques

– Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

– Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately

– Strong attention to detail and food quality

– Reliable attendance and punctuality

– Ability to work independently and as part of a team

– Positive attitude and willingness to learn

– Ability to communicate respectfully with team members, supervisors, and other departments

Training & Certification Requirements

– Manitoba Food Handler Certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire

– WHMIS Certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire

– First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset

– Must participate in all required workplace safety, food safety, and operational training

Employment Requirements & Working Conditions

– A three (3) month probationary period applies. Performance, reliability, food quality, cleanliness, teamwork, and compliance

with workplace standards will be reviewed during this period.

– Employment is conditional upon legal eligibility to work in Canada; satisfactory Criminal Record Check, if required; signing

Confidentiality Agreement; signing Code of Conduct; compliance with Respectful Workplace Policy; compliance with

company policies and procedures; and maintaining required food safety and workplace training.

– This role requires extended standing and walking, frequent bending and reaching, repetitive hand and arm movements,

working near heat and kitchen equipment, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced

kitchen environment during days shifts, catering preparation, weekends, statutory holidays, and operational peak periods.
