Shelly's Indigenous Bistro is an Indigenous-owned and operated restaurant offering
dine-in, takeout, delivery, catering, and community-based food services. We are
currently seeking an experienced Junior Cook / Prep Cook to join our growing kitchen
team.
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking individual with previous kitchen experience
who can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards
of food quality, cleanliness, safety, and teamwork.
Position Type:
Full-Time or Part-Time
Hours of Work:
Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and catering events
based on operational needs.
Position Summary
The Junior Cook / Prep Cook supports daily kitchen operations through food
preparation, ingredient management, line support, catering preparation, and sanitation
duties. The successful candidate will have previous kitchen experience and be
comfortable using knives, preparing ingredients, following recipes, and working as part
of a busy kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare vegetables, proteins, sauces, soups, and other ingredients
• Demonstrate safe and effective knife skills
• Follow recipes, portion standards, and food preparation procedures
• Assist with line cooking and food assembly
• Support catering preparation, packaging, and event production
• Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and FIFO rotation
• Restock ingredients and supplies as required
• Maintain clean and organized prep stations and work areas
• Complete cleaning and sanitation duties as assigned
• Assist with inventory counts and stock organization
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance concerns
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements
• Work collaboratively with cooks, supervisors, drivers, and front-of-house staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
• Previous kitchen, prep cook, line cook, catering, restaurant, or food service experience
is required
• Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment is preferred
• Strong knife skills and safe food preparation techniques
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
• Strong attention to detail and food quality
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Training & Certification Requirements
• Manitoba Food Handler Certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire
• WHMIS Certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire
• First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset
• Must participate in all required workplace safety, food safety, and operational training
