Position Summary

The Junior Baker supports daily bakery production by preparing ingredients and assisting with bannock, fry bread, breads, pastries, and desserts. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality, kitchen efficiency, and cleanliness while building foundational baking skills in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Measure, scale, and prepare baking ingredients
  • Assist in the preparation of bannock, fry bread, breads, pastries, and desserts
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations
  • Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and FIFO rotation
  • Restock baking ingredients and supplies as needed
  • Assist with inventory counts and stock organization
  • Support catering preparation and packaging
  • Complete cleaning tasks and sanitation checklists
  • Operate bakery equipment safely and report issues
  • Maintain compliance with Manitoba food safety regulations
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous baking or kitchen experience is considered an asset
  • Basic knowledge of baking techniques and kitchen safety
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow within the role

Training & Certifications

  • Manitoba Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • WHMIS certification (asset)
  • Ongoing training in food safety and operations may be required

Working Conditions & Employment Details

  • Shift-based role; hours may vary based on operational needs
  • Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Extended standing, repetitive tasks, and lifting (30–60 lbs) required
  • Work performed in a warm, fast-paced commercial kitchen environment

Compensation & Employment Conditions

  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience and internal structure
  • Three (3) month probationary period
  • Performance reviews based on quality, reliability, sanitation, and teamwork
