Opportunity

We are seeking volunteer board members who want to make a difference in our community and can share their time and passion to support our vision of a welcoming, inclusive, and diversity-affirming community that is free of poverty and full of heart. Prior board experience is not required! 

 

As a Lift board member, you will have the opportunity to develop and grow as a leader, cultivate new skill sets, access education and expand your network of peers, professionals, and community leaders. To ensure accessibility and inclusion, out of pocket expenses or loss of pay may be eligible for reimbursement.   We’d love to hear from you!

Lift Community Services works with community partners and people facing barriers to create equity and hope in the qathet region by establishing sustainable housing, employment, and a range of inclusive, supportive services. Our programs and services include:

We also provide community leadership and development in overdose response planning, poverty reduction planning, and other projects that develop a more connected and resilient community.  

The attributes we are looking for in new members 

Creative & flexible approach to contributing to a volunteer board and acting as an ambassador for Lift Willingness to support Lift in its mission, vision and values & help achieve strategic priorities  Passionate about growing a thriving, sustainable community Interest in challenging colonial mindsets and advancing a non-traditional board structure  Personal values of growth, inclusivity, and community focus Experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas would be an asset: Communications or marketing Financial management and non-profit fund development Business operation in community Non-profit board governance Accessing or having accessed Lift’s programs or services 

 

Overview 

  • The board meets once per month (for up to 3 hours) with participation in at least one committee and attendance at community & external events as needed 
  • Total time commitment is approximately 46 hours per month and a one-to-two-day educational session annually. This monthly time commitment includes up to to 3 hours of associated emails, committee meetings, meeting preparation, and/or representing Lift at community events and other functions 
  • Closing Date: June 30, 2026 
  • Start Date: successful candidates will be proposed to the membership at our AGM in September 2026 (date pending) 
  • Term: Board terms are for 1 or 2 years
