The Associate supports audit and accounting engagements by preparing financial information, maintaining accurate working papers, and assisting with assurance procedures under the guidance of senior team members. This role is responsible for supporting client files from set-up through completion, applying relevant accounting standards, and ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with firm methodologies. The position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, discretion in handling confidential information, and the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced public accounting environment.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Apply technical accounting and assurance knowledge, including researching issues and presenting conclusions to Partners, Managers, and Senior Associates.

• Apply NPO standards, GAAP, and/or ASPE to accounting and assurance engagements.

• Prepare accounting and assurance files, including financial statements, compilation engagements, working papers, and related documentation in CaseWare.

• Distinguish between compilation and assurance engagements and prepare appropriate schedules and reports.

• Obtain and document audit evidence for key account areas, including revenues, expenses, capital assets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and prepaid expenses.

• Review and investigate discrepancies or irregularities in financial records and supporting documentation.

• Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses, including establishing charts of accounts.

• Summarize financial information by preparing balance sheets, income statements, and related reports.

• Manage multiple concurrent accounting and assurance assignments while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

• Prepare clear client summaries outlining engagement findings, key facts, and highlights.

• Keep current with accounting standards, assurance requirements, and relevant legislation.

• Perform other accounting and assurance-related duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Certified or actively working toward the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, with 1–2 years of relevant accounting and/or assurance experience.

• Strong technical skills in accounting, assurance/auditing, asset depreciation, taxation, and bookkeeping.

• Experience using CaseWare and CCH (Tax Prep) is considered an asset.

• Prior experience in a public accounting or professional services environment is preferred.

• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

• Strong written and verbal communication and comprehension skills.

• Well-developed organizational and time management skills.

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Strong analytical skills for reviewing financial statements and preparing accounting and assurance files.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
