Role Overview
The Senior Accounting Associate will support compilation engagements and complex tax filings. This role will be responsible for managing client files from setup through completion, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate and compliant with firm methodologies. You may occasionally be required to assist with review engagements and relevant tax filings as part of a larger group you are responsible for.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare compilation engagements and related tax filings, including corporate, personal, trust, and partnership income tax returns, as well as T4, T4A, NR4, T5, T5001 Tax Shelter Slips, and GST/HST returns.
- Prepare review engagements, particularly those that form part of larger corporate group engagements, by coordinating planning, execution, communication, and completion across multiple related entities while ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to professional standards.
- Ensure engagements are completed on time and within budget.
- Respond promptly to client inquiries and information requests from the Canada Revenue Agency and other tax authorities.
- Train, mentor, and develop Associates and Co-op students by providing technical guidance, coaching and constructive feedback.
- Meet individual billable hour targets while contributing to the overall profitability, efficiency, and success of the firm.
- Manage multiple concurrent assignments efficiently.
Requirements
- Education background in accounting and/or a related field, with 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
- Currently pursuing or actively working toward Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Strong technical skills in accounting, auditing, asset depreciation, tax, and bookkeeping.
- Experience preparing T1, T2, T3, and other tax forms is mandatory.
- Solid technical background in Canadian Income Tax.
- Experience with CaseWare and CCH (Tax Prep) considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to take initiative and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
