As a Grant Consultant, you will lead and coordinate complex cross-corporate funding initiatives that support The City’s strategic priorities. Working across a broad range of programs and service areas, you will bring together internal and external partners to identify funding opportunities, develop grant strategies, prepare funding applications, negotiate grant agreements, and monitor project delivery. You will provide strategic advice on funding opportunities while facilitating collaboration among business units, funders, and other interested parties. Projects may range from major infrastructure initiatives and housing developments to community and corporate priority projects, requiring the ability to navigate a variety of funding programs. Success in this role requires strong strategic thinking, relationship management, project coordination, and communication skills to advance complex initiatives from conception through implementation. Primary duties include:

  • Lead the planning, development, submission, and implementation of complex grant and funding initiatives that support corporate priorities.
  • Provide advice on grant opportunities, program requirements, eligibility considerations, and funding strategies.
  • Facilitate governance and decision-making processes that support funding priorities across the corporation.
  • Lead the preparation of high-quality grant applications, business cases, briefing materials, and funding recommendations.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal staff as well as provincial, federal, and regional funding partners.
  • Represent The City in discussions related to funding negotiations, grant agreements, and intergovernmental funding initiatives.
  • Monitor funded projects and agreements to ensure compliance with funding requirements, reporting obligations, and corporate commitments.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of corporate grant management practices, frameworks, and governance processes.
  • Analyze funding opportunities and outcomes, emerging policy directions, and program trends to identify strategic opportunities and risks in order to improve funding success.
  • Develop recommendations for senior leadership regarding external funding priorities, investment decisions, and return on investment.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Law, Finance, Engineering, Planning or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, project management, infrastructure funding, intergovernmental relations, policy development, capital planning, grant strategy, or a related field.
  • Experience leading complex initiatives involving multiple interested parties and competing priorities.
  • A general understanding of capital project development, engineering consulting phases, infrastructure delivery, or construction processes is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic recommendations and present information to senior leaders.
  • Experience preparing business cases, funding proposals, grant applications, or investment analyses is considered an asset.
