Contaminated Sites

Play an integral role in Worley Consulting’s Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) practice, where technical expertise, environmental stewardship, and innovative problem-solving help clients manage environmental liabilities, restore impacted sites, and deliver sustainable outcomes across the full asset lifecycle. As part of our Contaminated Sites team, you will contribute to environmental assessment, remediation, reclamation, and monitoring projects that support responsible development and long-term asset stewardship across Alberta and northern Canada.

Purpose of the role

As an Intermediate Environmental Scientist, Engineer in Training, or Technologist, you will play a key role in delivering contaminated site assessment, remediation, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs across Alberta and northern Canada. You will provide field leadership, technical execution, project coordination, and mentorship while supporting successful project delivery and maintaining Worley’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and environmental responsibility.

Working closely with Project Managers, senior technical specialists, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams, you will lead field investigations, contribute to technical assessments and reporting, mentor developing professionals, and support innovative solutions that help clients manage environmental risk and achieve sustainability objectives.

This position provides a strong pathway toward project management, technical specialization, and leadership opportunities within Worley Consulting’s Liability Management and Restoration practice.

Location(s): Calgary, Alberta or Edmonton, Alberta

This is a full-time position based in either Worley Consulting’s Calgary or Edmonton office. The role includes frequent travel throughout Alberta and may involve assignments in the Northwest Territories and other northern or Arctic regions. Field programs may require rotational schedules, remote-site work, extended travel, and work in challenging environmental conditions.

You will be responsible for

• Leading and coordinating environmental field programs, including groundwater and surface water monitoring, soil sampling, drilling oversight, borehole logging, groundwater well installation, test pitting, remedial excavations, and reclamation activities.
• Planning and executing contaminated site investigations and environmental assessment programs in accordance with Alberta regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Conducting and supporting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and contributing to remediation, reclamation, and risk management strategies.
• Providing field leadership during environmental assessment, remediation, and restoration projects while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high technical standards.
• Coordinating field crews, subcontractors, and project resources while maintaining project schedules, quality expectations, and health and safety requirements.
• Mentoring junior environmental staff through field supervision, technical guidance, training, and ongoing development opportunities.
• Supporting Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, logistics coordination, execution, and issue resolution.
• Collecting, interpreting, and evaluating environmental data to support risk assessments, technical recommendations, remediation planning, and project decision-making.
• Preparing technical reports, regulatory submissions, environmental assessments, remediation summaries, and project documentation that meet client and regulatory requirements.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, Indigenous communities, and other project stakeholders.
• Developing, implementing, and promoting site-specific health, safety, and sustainability plans that identify, reduce, and eliminate project risks.
• Supporting a culture of operational excellence, environmental stewardship, quality delivery, and continuous improvement across all project activities.

What you’ll bring to the role

Education & Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Typically 5+ years of environmental consulting, contaminated sites, remediation, reclamation, or environmental field experience.
• Demonstrated experience supporting contaminated site assessment and remediation projects within Alberta.
• Professionals with 8+ years of environmental field experience seeking to transition into expanded leadership responsibilities are encouraged to apply.
• Eligibility for, or registration with, a relevant professional designation such as P.Ag., P.Biol., P.Eng., ASET, or equivalent is considered an asset.

Technical Expertise

• Strong understanding of contaminated site assessment, remediation, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs.
• Experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with Alberta regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations, liability management programs, environmental compliance frameworks, and industry best practices.
• Experience leading field programs involving drilling, groundwater monitoring, soil sampling, well installations, remediation activities, and environmental investigations.
• Ability to interpret environmental data and develop practical, technically sound, and defensible recommendations.
• Experience preparing technical reports, regulatory submissions, environmental assessments, and client deliverables.
• Experience supporting projects within the energy, oil and gas, industrial, mining, infrastructure, or resource sectors is highly desirable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard environmental reporting tools.

Leadership & Project Delivery

• Demonstrated ability to lead environmental field teams and coordinate multiple project activities simultaneously.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior staff through coaching, technical guidance, and field leadership.
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and project schedules.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking capabilities.
• Adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of thriving in dynamic field and office environments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong technical writing skills and experience preparing professional environmental reports and regulatory documentation.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively to clients, regulators, project teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships and contribute positively within a team environment.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality work while maintaining professional and ethical standards.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly in support of client projects and field programs.
• Ability to work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions and challenging terrain.
