Central Zone is the second largest health zone in Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, serving approximately 90,000 people (17 per cent of the province’s population) living in 176 communities. With a geographical area encompassing more than half the total land mass of the island, the Central region extends from Charlottetown in the east, Fogo Island in the north, Harbour Breton in the south, to Baie Verte in the west. Central Zone provides a variety of primary, secondary, long-term care, community health, and other enhanced secondary services.

JOB SUMMARYNL Health Services Central Zone invites applications from Family Physicians to join the Family Care Team Program in a full-time salaried position in the Kittiwake Region.

NLHS is pleased to support Family Care Team in achieving its goals of providing exceptional and high-quality care to patients in the Central region. The Family Care Team (FCT) mandate is to provide patients without a primary care provider with access to primary health care services. Services will be provided using an inter-professional collaborative approach where patients will see the right provider at the right time and right place. The team may include physicians, NPs, RNs including diabetic nurse educator, clerical supports, LPNs, pharmacists, social workers, dietitian, physiotherapist and occupational therapist. All health care providers, including physicians, will be expected to practice to their full scope of practice to meet patient needs and requirements. The FCT aims to provide continuity of care to improve health outcomes and patients’ quality of life.

We are seeking physicians to manage a roster of patients in addition to supporting the work at the Category B Facility within the community. Additional support of other services, such as Long-Term Care and Personal Care Home services, is also part of the responsibilities as part of the team supporting that facility. Our ideal candidates will have a strong patient focus and excellent communication skills with a keen interest in practicing in a collaborative team approach. Hours of work may need flexibility to offer clinics during the daytime or coverage of Category B Emergency. After hours and/or weekend coverage may be required. The successful Physicians will provide care using the EMR platform.
