ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites applications for a salaried Float Family Physician to join the Family Care Team (FCT) in the St. John’s metro region.

The Primary Health Care Family Care Team mandate is to provide patients without a primary care provider in the St. John’s and metro region with access to primary health care services. Services are delivered using an interprofessional collaborative approach where patients see the right provider at the right time and place. The team includes physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses including a diabetic nurse educator, clerical support, LPNs, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. All health care providers, including physicians, are expected to practice to their full scope of practice to meet patient needs.

The successful candidate will not have an attached patient panel. The incumbent will provide coverage for primary care providers who are on leave from their practice. Should no providers be on leave across the Family Care Teams, the incumbent will provide care at the Community Walk-In Clinic or the Mobile Primary Health Care Clinic. The successful candidate is accountable for the provision of comprehensive health care services to patients receiving care from the program, including both longitudinal and episodic care. Hours of work may require flexibility to offer clinics during daytime, after-hours, and on weekends to meet patient needs. Care will be provided using the EMR platform.

The successful candidate is responsible to the NLHS leadership team and to the Clinical Chief of Primary Care.

Work Environment

St. John’s is a vibrant, historic city on the eastern tip of North America, offering a warm and welcoming community, a thriving arts and culture scene, and easy access to the stunning natural landscapes of the Avalon Peninsula — including whale watching, hiking, and some of the most dramatic coastlines in Canada.
