The Position
The Food Service Worker supports the operation of Housing Services food programs by assisting with meal preparation, attending to kitchen safety and cleanliness, and collaborating with staff and residents to ensure nutritious meals are available daily. The role contributes to creating a welcoming, safe, and efficient kitchen that meets health and safety standards and promotes resident well-being.

Qualifications
- Grade 12
- Recent, related experience of six (6) months
- Certificate in related field.
- Familiarity with harm reduction and Housing First approaches.
- Awareness of street culture and the needs of residents exiting homelessness.
- Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office, email, and kitchen inventory systems.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Current Food Safe Certificate Level I.
- Requires Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check clearance.
Skills
- Basic food preparation skills and ability to follow recipes accurately
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment
- Strong dishwashing and kitchen cleanup skills with attention to hygiene standards
- Ability to manage inventory, restock supplies, and support basic administrative tasks

Working Condition and Physical Requirements
- Works in a commercial kitchen within a residential housing program.
- Attends to duties in environments with active substance use, requiring awareness and safety practices.
- Must climb stairs, lift up to 80lbs, and work in warm, humid conditions.
- Uses cleaning chemicals and equipment to maintain sanitary food services.
