Shelter Youth Worker

Summary:

The Shelter Youth Worker plays a vital role in providing support and guidance to young individuals residing in a shelter environment. This position is essential for fostering a safe and nurturing atmosphere, helping youth navigate challenges, and promoting their personal development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a dedicated team to ensure the well-being and empowerment of the youth in our care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and guidance to youth in the shelter.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual support plans.
  • Facilitate group activities and workshops to promote social skills and personal growth.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all residents.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Monitor and document the progress of youth, reporting any concerns to management.
  • Engage with families and guardians to support the youth’s reintegration into the community.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma; a degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is an asset.
  • Experience working with youth in a social care or community setting is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by at-risk youth.
  • Basic knowledge of child protection policies and procedures.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an advantage.
