About the role:
Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are seeking a Research Engineer to join IN-CYPHER (Imperial/NTU CYber Protection for HEalthcaRe), a UK–Singapore research programme focused on protecting connected medical devices and healthcare systems.
This role will contribute to IN-CYPHER Theme 4: Clinical Innovation & Translation, supporting the development of novel biosensors and approaches for personalised medicine. You will work at the interface of biomedical engineering, wet-lab science, healthcare and cybersecurity, helping to translate research ideas into real-world applications and positive societal impact.
The successful candidate will be employed by Imperial Global Singapore, Imperial College London’s research and innovation entity in Singapore. You will be based at the National Research Foundation’s Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE), on the campus of the National University of Singapore, and will collaborate with researchers at Imperial, NTU, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
What you would be doing:
You will take responsibility for planning and delivering your own scientific and engineering work, with appropriate supervision, while contributing actively to the wider IN-CYPHER research programme. Your work is likely to include:
- Working independently in the lab to conceptualize, design, and conduct wet-lab experiments related to biomedical sensors and biochemical or electrochemical detection.
- Working with biosensor technologies, including areas such as lateral-flow assays, glucose sensors, protein and small-molecule assays, nucleic-acid detection and recombinant biomarker expression.
- Integrating novel cybersecurity hardware and software tools into custom built sensing technologies
- Assisting in the supervision of undergraduate/postgraduate interns
What we are looking for:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable researcher engineer who can work independently in the laboratory and contribute effectively within a highly interdisciplinary team. You should have:
- A master’s degree or equivalent experience in biomedical engineering, bioengineering or a closely related discipline.
- Practical experience in a research environment, including significant wet-lab experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in biomedical sensor design and fabrication, biochemical or electrochemical sensing, or related areas such as protein, small-molecule or nucleic-acid assays.
What we can offer you:
- The opportunity to develop your career at a world-leading institution and contribute to research with potential for meaningful healthcare impact.
- The opportunity to work across biomedical engineering, clinical translation and cybersecurity in a vibrant international research environment.
- Collaboration with researchers and clinical partners across Imperial College London, NTU, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
- A diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture.
- Access to leisure facilities within the CREATE building as a member of staff.
